Good to know. Added it to my downloads when it was on Plus and I'm planning on another playthrough once I've completed DS2.

Seeing as no Demon's Souls update was announced for PS4 I started this proper last week...and it's magical. Oh my god, what a game.

Managed to complete 1-1 (Phalanx (sp?)) and now a level 16 female Knight. I wanted to farm Boletaria Palace but those red-eyed guardians are staunch opposition. I'm not afraid of dying anymore so it's slightly easier to take the bull by the horns and get stuck in, rather than being timid all the time...but I guess that's the point of getting experience under my belt.

I assume that I need, or it's advisable, to complete the first levels of all area's before going on to 1-2 i.e. 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1 & 5-1. Would that be right (since farming the whole Palace is pretty much out of my league so right now)?

Tempted to start a shieldless run at some point, get some practice in for when Bloodborne is released.

Reposting this from the CP thread in the hope someone will be able to answer:

I played it for about four hours before and never saw the Phalanx boss. For some reason my PS3 wiped my game save so I started again today. Played for two hours today and defeated it and the big strawberry float off Knight fella first try. I'm constantly looking at walkthrough's to try and work out what all the symbols and things i'm holding do as i've got no idea about most of them. The menus are just so strawberry floating clunky and awkward. I want to go back and fight those two dragons from the first section that I just said no thanks to the first time too, but i've got no idea how i'd kill them as the ones that fly above me just do so much damage. There's also those two red eye'd guards I saw in the first section that I just avoided the first time around too. This game makes me so scared of dying. :fp:

I've also got no idea how to use the Heal move I unlocked. Is it because i'm playing as a Soldier?

When it comes to spending my souls, what's best to spend it on? Is it a case of repairing gear, then upgrading my stats? And if so, what stats should I be upgrading as a priority? I stuck loads of points in that one that gives me health to begin with, but I imagine stamina is pretty helpful too.

I can't remember the best way to kill the dragons but I'd recommend going to a new area. Some people say that doing the first part of each world is the best way to start the game.

The heal move is a miracle and you need to equip a Talisman in your left or right hand to use them. You can find out more here: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/spells.

Souls are best spent on stats and upgrading (and repairing, if necessary) equipment. If you're going to stick with a soldier (i.e. melee attacks) you'll want to invest in strength and endurance to do more damage and keep up your stamina. Magic users will have to invest in different stats and the link above should help you work out which ones. I wouldn't put much more into extra health as a higher endurance stat will let you wear stronger armour while moving relatively quickly.

OK, cheers DD. I think what i'll do is go and try and kill the red eye'd knight fella and see what he's hiding and then if I can't do that move on to a new area. I keep finding another knight fella who glows yellow and I "rescue" him from different places. Is there any real benefit for me doing that? He just walks off every time I do it (although admittedly, that is only twice so far).

I'd bet against you taking out the red knight now. I found him pretty tough even after 90 hours of Dark Souls.

I think that the other guy is Ostrava of Boletaria. You do get something for saving him, and there's more information on the wiki, but it's best to just play the game without looking up too much information about the world. Asking in here is the best way to find out things as we can give you a nudge without spoiling too much which may happen if you delve too deeply into the wiki without knowing where to stop.

Switched to the Utchi sword from the Bastard Sword and not quite sure what I think of it. I've got it up to +3, but not sure if it's too weak (and how easy is it to break it with only 70 durability)?

Right, bit of a big bump.

I'm going to go back to this, after beating Bloodborne and Dark Souls. Played Demon's Souls first just before BB was released, managing to beat 1-1 and dabbled in 1-2 and 4-2, I think. That's as far as I got.

I'm wondering what class to pick. I've heard that magic and the Royal class can make the game way too easy. I have a decent backlog, with DS2 and DS3 still to play, so I'm not exactly desperate to spend months on Demons Souls, but I would like some challenge. Should I give magic the swerve? I've heard Demons is the hardest for melee classes though (wth Dark Souls I basically had quite a bit of stamina and equipment load, and was fairly fast).

Think I was a Temple Knight last time around. Might pick that playthrough up again but want to start afresh to jog my memory.

I've already gotted gud though. Just never dabbled in magic before so wonder if trying it out would nerf the game and lessen the strong sense of e-penis I have been (well) endowed with.

So I finally started this again over the weekend.

I started a new character to jog my memory a bit. People aren't kidding when they talk about Magic being OP.

With my first character, the Temple Knight, I'd done 1-1 and got to the boss for 1-2 and most of the way through 2-1. This took me 9 hours and I was SL10.

In about the same amount of time with the royal, I'm level 35 and I've done 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and 4-1. Soul Arrow makes mincemeat of everything, and the boss have so far been a cake walk. Did the spider first time and the Adjudicator on the second attempt.

Half tempted to now go back to the Temple Knight or just rely on my Crescent Falchion more. Melee is harder but more satisfying. You barely have to dodge when you use ranged spells.

I could never get anywhere in Demon's with melee despite that being precisely how I've played al the subsequent games. I went through Demon's as the proverbial glass cannon with most of my souls spent beefing up my magic.

Ah, gooseberry fool.
After nine years, Demon's Souls' servers are going offline for good

From Software's seminal action RPG Demon's Souls will, after nearly nine years of unremittingly bleak multiplayer adventuring, see its online services discontinued on February 28th, 2018.

Sony Japan was the first to break the news, leaving many to wonder if Demon's Souls servers would live on in the west. Since then, however, Demon's Souls' US publisher Atlas, and its European publisher Namco Bandai, have repeated the announcement.

Once Demon's Souls' servers are no more, all online functionality will, unsurprisingly, cease. From that point on, journeys through the fallen kingdom of Boletaria will no longer be accompanied by messages of encouragement (or blackhearted trickery) from fellow players. You won't catch fleeting glimpses of other players in your world as they go about their business elsewhere, or see the bloodstains of defeated adventurers in-game, or be able to embark on PvP invasions and co-operative play.

Oh well at least this gives me a deadline as the game will be near impossible without hints.

It is a shame and a sign of things to come for all online games.

Games are effectively going to become a service we pay for with an expiry date.
