Nah not anti depressants, prescribed steroids. Quicker they work quicker I can get off them.

So, assuming CBT doesn't work, and medication doesn't work, what's next? In a bit of a state right now.

I dunno. Feel the same. Been on Citalopram, then Sertraline. Didn't make any difference to my social situation. CBT just felt stupid, just seemed like I was having a chat with someone who was totally indifferent to everything I was saying, followed by me writing down how I felt on a scale of 1-10. My last session ended with her setting me some homework, to learn to play the keyboard. Seriously.

I've come of the meds on my own, feel a bit lightheaded but it's nice to not feel quite so zoned out all the time. But I just don't see any light at the end of the tunnel anymore. The apathy has suddenly become all conquering. Didn't even get dressed until 3pm the other day. I was supposed to have therapy at 2.

CBT doesnt work for everyone. Didnt work for me. I also thought it was stupid and lame.

Taking yourself off medication is also the wrong way about things. You are supposed to go to your GP for a dosage/prescription review. I tried like 5 things before I got to one that worked, and even that one I have to increase the dosage 4 times.

And even after all that, they still wont make you feel magically better. Pills and therapy dont just make you happy, they dont work like that. You have to work at it to drag yourself out. Its gooseberry fool and its hard but its the only way. The pills and therapy help you, they prop you up, they really do - but you still have to work at it.

Oh yeah totally, I get that it's hard work. That's half the problem, I really don't feel like I can be bothered to make the effort. One of the first things my therapist asked was what I wanted to achieve from CBT. I said 'to be honest, even if everything disappears, all the anxiety, apathy and depression. I'm still going to be a 35 year old fuckup with no prospects'. How do you get over that?

Cos you're not a 35 years old strawberry float up, if you are then I'm a 38 year old strawberry float up, but I'm not and that means neither are you. Everyone has prospects, if they are small then so what, they can get better incrementally.

I have an interview next week to get full time work. I've no chance as job practically describes what another dude is doing now but strawberry float it if im not going in guns blazing and try to show them I'm great, if they can't see that their loss as I'd kill at the job they offering. Strongly thinking ofkvung to Minnesota, being the father of a US citizen has its perks! :)

Pills wise I have no idea if they working or not. I don't feel anything. Usually got to take Donna's word for it.

Thats the right way about it tbh. Im an unmotivated prick and a pain in the arse so anything that was on me to do alone was never going to work. Felt bad for the guy who was trying to sort me out.

CBT is primarily work to knock you out of bad thought patterns and behaviours etc. If it doesnt work for you, tell them. I did and I got bumped up to tier 2 gooseberry fool, although tbf I had to wait for like 6 months for it to be arranged.

I thought you had kids? Arent they prospects? Form them into glorious little bastards and watch them enjoy things you never got a chance to. Thats what Id do.

I had a patchy week last week with regards to compliance with my medication, and I'm feeling it today.

Absolutely ratty with everyone in work today for no reason, and clouded thinking throughout. I made a 40 under 40 list today and I feel nothing. I came home and I've just gone straight to bed. strawberry float everything.

Sorry to hear that, its important to keep up with your pills no matter what. They strawberry float you up fast if you lapse without properly tapering off.

I had the lamest reason ever for being down as strawberry float this morning. Had a really nice dream (the kind that you just sort of accept is real life as its so plausible) and then woke up and got depressed as strawberry float. I suppose it makes a change from night terrors, but Id really rather my own brain just didnt try to strawberry float me over at all.

Just about to head out to cheer myself up.

Has anyone taken the Goldberg Depression test? I just did it and it came up with 39 (moderate-severe) even though I thought I was being a bit conservative with some of the answers.

Just in general over the last few months in particular I've been feeling a bit down. Finding it difficult to get excited about anything, dreading weekends approaching where I have no plans and various other things. I spoke it over with a friend and he suggested looking into it in case it was depression as the thought hadn't even crossed my mind. I'll probably get an appointment booked with my GP as I wasn't expecting that test result to come back so high.

That kind of questionnaire can be pretty accurate - your GP might give you a similar test to take. The only advice I can give you really is when you do it, be honest, don't be conservative. And when your doctor chats to you about the results, be as honest as you can then too.

Good luck mate, I hope it doesn't turn out you're developing depression but if you are then let us know how things are going.

42 8-)

Quite mentally strawberry floated up right now from the steroids though. banana spliting things aren't even working right now at stabilising my blood levels which is compounding the misery. Useless strawberry floating things.

I took that thing and it said moderately to severely depressed, which I'm almost certain I am not. I'm not the most excitable person in the world when it comes to doing things I'd rather not but I wouldn't consider it 'depressive.'

I had to do a similar test every week as part of my CBT. My therapist basically said that even though I kept scoring a lot of the questions as being bad, I wasn't really depressed because I seemed upbeat in the sessions. After that I stopped going. I mean, what's the point if she doesn't even believe the things I'm telling her?

Therapists who fail to understand what depression even is should be sacked IMO. :( Sorry you had such a negative experience.

Believe it or not, the yogic meditation stuff can really work if you go for it.

Not my bag, but not completely made up.
