I have only ever known 2 people who had depression, 1 was my uncle who was an alcaholic, He was a top bloke, but he hit the bottle too much, and had too much of a shitty past that he could just let it go, it was a shame when he died, cos it was around the time he was getting his life on track, another was this girl at uni, who told me she self harmed and tried to commit suicide like 5 times, I really wanted to say to her, look if pills don't work just tie a hose to the exhaust and choke to death, cos 5 times ffs!

Maybe i have just had it to good in my life to really know depression, sure i get down, and have pyschopathic thoughts almost bi-daily, but i am always looking forwards to the future, even if i end up alone in a crack house, i will find solitude.

In hospital, which was absolutely awful, though it only lasted a few days. SilvaShadow was posting about his girlfriend's depression a while before (we're talking March 2007 here), so reading the thread helped me out. I posted about mine and everyone told me to keep my chin up! Visits from my mum and friends sorted me out too - it was only glandular fever, but it was a complete change, being in hospital.

Got a bit down coming out of a relationship in March, still not 100% over it - I just need another bird. Made me horribly down though, but that's common place when coming out of relationships.

I know, mate. I've always got my closest mates to turn to. Sometimes I think you need to let depression settle in though, so you can differentiate. It'll make seeing mates a ton of an impact.

It's difficult not to get depressed after doing stuff in Russia like I did in the summer hols. To see that level of poverty... It's so upsetting. And to get so attached to so many brilliant orphaned kids and then to have to leave them and they're in tears and begging you not to go etc... And it's just soul destroying. It's always, always on my mind.

I suffered from depression around 13 for a number of years after family issues and never quite got over it being young and stuff it easily pulled me down, and still suffer now at points in the year.

Friends and family though is the best way through gooseberry fool, being able to get out, cry out if you need to everything and have those people who love you and always want to help you and stop you from harming yourself is the best, they really can help put things into perspective even when it is soo damn hard to see things clearly.

The meds really do help, although miss a week of them and you'll never find the energy to get them from the doctors.

Killing your friends is not really depression, its insanity, I always dream of aquiring an AK47 and entering the Bullring in Brum and unloading a few hundred rounds on christmas eve.... One can dream.

I like to think it's a bit of both.

It really is depression though.

Oh, and I get through 2 or 3 litres of energy drink a day to keep me awake. Another sign, there.

MCN wrote:I suffer from clinical depression, which is kind of understandable when you consider that I am culpable for the deaths of an unknown number of people, whilst at the same time being shot at with various heavy arms.

So, yeah, I'm currently on anti-depressants and on the waiting list to see a psychologist.

Other than that, I'm fine.

Wernt you a technician though?

Depression is a wide spread problem and can have so many types and causes.

You get folks like MCN who've had to see some awful stuff, who wouldn't get depressed? Then you get people like my brother who's suffered severe mental health issues arising from despression without ny obvious cause like that (though it can be seen to root back to a very messed up childhood).

It's complex. It's all around all of us now. Sufferers I know (to one extent or another) include , myself, Brother, Mum and a very close friend all at the moment.

The term depression is over-used. Sometimes you just need to open your heart with someone you can trust to feel miles better, sometimes its just boredom or the fact that you dont have anything to look forward to, so you end up thinking too much about futile things.
