Just a little update. I decided I really ought to mention it to Liam who's show this is based off and so I emailed him. Fair play he came back to me straight away. :D
Hi,

Thanks for your email and also for listening to the show :)

It's really cool that you like the idea enough to do something like this and considering FG was inspired by a lot of different podcasts and shows, including Desert Island Discs. It would be hypocritical of me to say "No, that's my idea". Haha.

If it's for your community and you guys want to have fun by all means go ahead! It's a great think to think about, the 8 games, so if it's gonna be a fun experience for you all, I am all for you doing it :) I would say though, if you were going to expand it beyond the community for some means I would worry you might get called out for it being similar to FG. So, I would try and add your own little niches to it as well, maybe ask certain questions or have stuff I don't have in the show!

Sounds like a fun plan, thanks very much for letting me know first it's really appreciated. A small credit to FG in the article saying the idea was partially inspired by the show wouldn't go a miss :)

I hope this helps and I hope you all enjoy thinking of your 8 games, as well as continuing to listen to the show!

Cheers,
Liam

So we're full steam ahead. In the meantime, if you haven't listened to Final Games then you really should. If you like the idea of picking your 8 games then maybe check out what people like Derek Yu, Mike Bithell, CheapyD, Greg Kasavin and Steve Gaynor all chose. Link in the OP.

Turns out the first episode is going to be quite a bit larger than I was expecting. This is almost entirely down to the significant amount of excellent content that Rax has provided. He's certainly set a high watermark. So what I'm going to do is split it into 3 parts, that seems to give the best balance between length of article and taking up too much space on the site. I hope this is ok. First part should be dropping soon.

What Rex is trying to say is Ive waffled on for ages even when asked the simplest of questions so hes having to spend all his time trawling though my drivel to find the one useful nugget of info in there. :slol:

I think a whip round might be in order though, Rax seems to be working with a keyboard that either doesn't have an apostrophe key or it's broken.

A thoroughly enjoyable read. Looks like this idea is going to be a great success. It really looks like Rax is going to set a high standard, I feel sorry for whoever has to go next. :shifty:

I can't seem to get into Minecraft at all, I appreciate the game but I just find it hard work. I guess it's a good desert island game though, as it's almost completely unlimited in scope.

Give creative mode a go, you don't need to collect stuff just build whatever with access to all blocks of all types.

I'm too used to my phone automatically putting them in so I forget to do it when I'm using a keyboard.

I have enjoyed reading this first part of the launch episode - excellent work, Rex and Rax! Transport Tycoon sounds like a good choice for desert island play, with it's huge variety of options and approaches. I own Minecraft but have never really played it and I just don't know why. I like creative stuff but I've not put time into this... I will do one day.

I'm looking forward to reading more from Rax and then future island castaways!
