Designated Survivor, Wednesdays in the US. Thursdays on Netflix UK. 1st season was 13 episodes but picked up for an additional 9 episodes. Cancelled after Season 2 but renewed by Netflix for Season 3 which starts 7th June 2019.

Kiefer Sutherland stars as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President of the United States after a catastrophic attack on the US Capitol during the State of the Union, on the highly anticipated ABC series Designated Survivor. As equal parts action and drama, and giving Kiefer Sutherland one of the best roles of his career, Designated Survivor is the season’s first sure thing. Make that “Designated” sure thing.

3.5/4
With a little humor to lighten the tension, some well-placed quiet moments to keep the show grounded and a fast pace that keeps any seams from showing, Designated arrives as the most satisfying opening hour of any new broadcast drama.

A-
It grabs your attention within the first few minutes and keeps you fixated on your screen until the last, dramatic scene. The hourlong pilot feels like 30 minutes and will leave you wanting more.

A-
The pilot is tremendous. It’s tightly plotted, and, despite being about terrorism like “24,” it brings Sutherland out of the shadow of can-do Jack Bauer.

Enjoyed the strong pilot & it's available to those who don't sail the high seas so chucked a thread together.

This reads like the set up for a bad sitcom.

Yeah, not a bad pilot at all. Bit cheesy in places but it was very entertaining, moved at a cracking pace and Kiefer is excellent. Not sure if it's going to sustain that kind of momentum for 13 episodes, but it's a keeper so far.

Good start. Feels very much like 24 but without the time restrictions. Hopefully the sons drug dealing doesn't become the Kim story of this season, and they focus on the interesting stuff instead. There is lots of potential here.

Decent 2nd episode. Not sure an extra 9 episodes to fill is the greatest news but we'll see.

Seen the trailer when I was out in Canada, didn't expect it on Netflix.

Watched the first three episodes and it looks good. Hard not to see a bit of 24 in the way the story is progressing though but that's not a bad thing

WATCH | Ted Lasso S2, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18

Mid-season finale, S02E10 spoiler -

Dramatic ending, slightly spoiled by the actress announcing a few months ago that she's leaving the show. I assume it was deliberate so will open up another investigation. Nice reaction from Kiefer.

I said it in the Netflix thread but I really can't understand why I'm still watching this. It's absolute tosh of the highest order but I'm still there every Thursday.

“Designated Survivor” is officially moving from ABC to Netflix for its third season, Variety has learned.

The political drama starring Kiefer Sutherland was cancelled by ABC back in May, but rumors began to swirl almost immediately that series producer eOne were looking to continue the show with the streaming giant. Neal Baer will join the series as showrunner for the third season, which will consist of 10 episodes. Baer will now be the fifth showrunner on “Designated Survivor” since it began.

In the new season, President Kirkman (Sutherland) will face a political reality–campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.”

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play President Kirkman for season 3 of ‘Designated Survivor’ with Netflix, eOne and Neal Baer,” Sutherland said. “I believe this format will allow us to continue to delve deeply into storylines and issues concerning the American electorate that were not previously possible.”

It’s a terrible show, but also oddly enjoyable to watch.

Hopefully cutting it down to 10 episodes per season will massively up the quality.

I'm not sure if making this into The West Wing with Kiefer for season 2 was a good move or not. 10 episode season is definitely encouraging though.
