I'm a base game owner as I haven't bothered with the dlc, so what is actually new for me?

I'm power 267 and trying to grind for better loot but it's all lower level stuff, I want to get to 300 and be able to do the raid.
Also what happened to the 3 little challenges for each planet?

They've changed the challenges for bounties you get at the planet vendor.

There probably isn't that much new for base game owners. You'll have more chances to get powerful gear I think, as you get a daily challenge each day like "complete a strike/crucible matches/heroic adventure". There are clan bounties too. Given I've only seen Mafro from the Grcade clan online, it's going to take a while before it levels up.

EDIT - You can probably do the raid at 267 if memory serves. If you're with people who are higher than you, then can probably pull you through.

Buying the two expansion packs would help up the rate of new gear. They are £8 for one or £15 for both and, while they weren't great value at full price, you can probably get some value out of them now. They add a raid lair each too.

I switched clans months ago because the GRcade one was basically dead and and no one was playing.

Yeah, I myself put the game down shortly before the first DLC hit, and that didn't have enough to tempt me back.

Thought more people would have returned with Forsaken though.

Had a quick go on this via ps plus. It just feels a bit watered down and isn’t really a single player experience is it? Even the graphics are crap. I hate these character creation tools which make your character look like a ps1 model compared to the npcs. Obviously in this game it requires everyone to look a bit different. Still nice of bungie/ sony to get this out free to us.

Destiny 2 actually got plaudits for its single player upon release. It's problems were at the other end, after completion and when it came to getting players to log in and play every day.

Also the character creation tools are perfunctory as it's about loot and armour customisation through shaders. You can opt to have your helmet off in menus and the tower, but whenever you're in a situation where you're shooting (i.e. 99% of the game), you'll have your helmet on so no-one can see your face. The Exos and Awoken don't look too bad; the human faces are terrifying.

To be fair not wearing a helmet in a battle situation would cause all sorts of health and safety issues and we don't need to be bogged down filling in risk assessment forms before we head out on a raid.

I may have slated Destiny 2 now and then but I think the graphics are great. The only thing that I could complain about in that department is it not being 60 fps on the Pro/one X and I can completely understand why they would want to keep 30 fps as it could be seen as a huge advantage for x/Pro owners and that's not where console gaming should be going.
Saying Destiny 2 has crap graphics is pretty laughable.

Are you mad? If there's one thing I can't fault D2 for, it's how it looks, and it's amazingly well optimised on PC, so it runs a solid 60 all the time.

This is definitely the best Destiny has been since the launch of the Taken King. The new patrol area, Tangled Shore is easily my favourite one yet and its as big as any of the ones from the main game. The new enemies do actually feel substantially different from fighting normal Fallen and they're massively less annoying than the Taken.

I think the campaign is probably the best one yet too, and it get's so much better once Cayde's shitty Deadpool-esque humour dies with him. Loved the scale of the first few missions with the prison breakout and all the gooseberry fool going on around it. Most of the baron hunt quests were pretty unique compared to the usual boss fights, my personal favourite was the one fighting on pikes. When you complete the main campaign a whole new patrol area opens up but it's pretty high level and it looks like this is where the new raid will be accessed from too. This is where the new Blind Well activity is and that's just a newer version of Court of Oryx/Archon's Forge/Escalation Protocol.

I haven't done all of the new strikes yet but the ones I have are all brand new and not just lazily recycled story missions like in Curse of Osiris or Warmind. One new strike in particular is one of the best they've ever done you go through part of the Prison of Elders and one of the sections takes place the arena you fought Skolas in D1 PoE, complete with dismantling mines followed by a mini-boss fight. It even has a rogue servitor as the new prison warden mimicking Varik's voice

I feel overwhelmed with stuff to do now because there's so many bounties from the various vendors and the daily and weekly stuff has been completely revamped. There's still the weekly flashpoints, nightfall etc but there's daily stuff that rewards a powerful engram and it looks like it changes from a heroic mission, a strike, a gambit match etc. every day.

They seem to have massively toned down the drop rate of mods (these are meant to drop in the wild but they're either extremely rare or aren't dropping at all but Bungie are "looking into it" so you know what that means  ) and exotic too. I'm fine with them making exotic rarer if they've made it so getting duplicate exotic drops is now extremely rare or doesn't happen at all until you've got most of them.

Gambit mode can be fun but currently it's just full of invaders one-shotting people with Sleeper Simulant and there's some dodgy matchmaking too with groups of solo players being put against full parties.

Not sure about the economy changes they've made with infusion requiring 25 planetary materials and masterwork cores now as well as legendary shards, but it's early days just now.

How is this as a solo experience?
Do many people use the new Warlock super rift ability and does it boost you as much as I'd hope?

I played through all the story stuff solo and it was fine. The game does a good job of keeping you at around the right level you need to be for each mission. I've been in with a bunch of randoms doing the Blind Well and that new warlock one seems to help a lot in groups but I'm not sure about it as a solo player, same goes for that new void titan super with the big shield that you can shoot through.

It isn't just me being one shotted by Sleeper Simulant then.

During the free trial last week, I was actually coming out on top in 90% of my invader skirmishes, and had a decent success rate invading others too.

Now the game's launched, I haven't really been invading others that much (heard on rllmuk that power level affects the PVP part of it) but I've regularly been getting killed by invaders. I think some of this is because they have their super primed and ready when they go in, but it can't be my power level making me squishy anymore as I'm about 503 now.

Also in Gambit, invasions during the Primeval part seem to happen pretty rapidly. I don't know if this is a tactical whereby teams deliberately lag behind, wait for you to summon and then bank all their motes in order to invade and peg you back. The games I lose are generally because it's literally just one invasion after another during the Primeval phase.

Agree with everything else Mafro says about the game. It's easily had the same affect on me that The Taken King had. When Bungie take their time and have to deliver a substantial upgrade, they do it well.

When its expansion pass stuff or things that they know a substantial amount of players have bought in advance, it tends to be insusbrantial stuff that has a whiff of being trimmed off the main game.

Its part of the new Gambit game mode. Its it's own thing separate to the rest of the game.

I just ploughed through Curse of Osiris, good fun but the fields of glass got old after the first trip through them. Ive picked up a buttload of legendary items and a couple of exotics too which is great considering I got ONE exotic in the entire run of D2s main campaign.

What pisses me off tho is how useless the exotics/legendaries become so fast, like youll find an exotic helmet with say, 250 power, and then 5 minutes later find a crappy blue helmet that has 260 power or whatever, and now your exotic is already underpowered. like correct me if im wrong, but to upgrade a legendary/exotic, I need to infuse it with a regular item of higher power, but I also need like 25 legendary shards and 3 masterwork cores? All of which are a strawberry floating nightmare to come by? It just seems like such a chore to get the items that youre just better off using the regular gear of higher power?

You can only get invaded in Gambit mode

And yeah they really haven't thought through the new infusion economy well for people that are new to the game or haven't played since masterwork weapons were introduced. It's another example of them not actually playing there own game for any meaningful length of time.

Game hasn't even been out a week yet and there's people already glitching into the raid to get loot from the first chest

They've also managed to strawberry float up the weekly milestone rewards, they accidentally reset on Saturday instead of this Tuesday somehow and it sounds like it's screwed people out of getting any powerful engrams from some challenges until a week on Tuesday possibly :fp:

Weekly Challenges Reset: After further investigation, we have determined that the Gambit, Crucible, and Story Weekly Challenges did reset at 5 PM PDT Saturday instead of at the Weekly Reset. Due to this issue they will not reset again at the Weekly Reset on Tuesday at 10 AM PDT. This will impact the acquisition of Powerful Rewards depending on when players completed the impacted Weekly Challenges. We are investigating a fix for this issue and will provide updates in this thread as they are available. The Strike and Nightfall Weekly Challenges do not appear to impacted at this time. - Updated 9/9/2018
