I stopped playing about a year after Destiny 2 started so would I have a hope in hell of understanding the plot now?

It's constant progression. I don't think I said it looped back.

Depends when you jumped in. Beyond Light/Witch Queen are the big story beats.

The Witch Queen is a really good campaign (do it on legendary) but you'd need to find a "lore recap" up to Witch Queen as Savathun had been up to a lot of gooseberry fool in the run up.

They'd actually gotten really good at telling an ongoing story - the seasons in the run up to witch queen and the follow up built up a good deal of narrative momentum. (S18 today looks like it'll be a bit of swerve/pause though.)

But you can't experience it. You can still play the WQ campaign but the seasons in the run up where Savathun secretly kidnapped and impersonated Osiris, led a race war in the Last City, then after being revealled made a deal with Mara Sov to have her worm removed in return for information and the return of Osirs is gone. You can only experience that one time.

I played from the beta of D1 all the way to I think it was the start of the Leviathan raids so whenever that was.
I stopped because our group stopped playing.
I imagine I would have to do quite a lot of story backtracking but it doesn't sound as convoluted as I feared it might be.

That was soon after D2, but it's gotten good. (I editted in the summary of the 6-9 month run up to Witch Queen above).

There's load changed since then - Foresaken and it's impacts are still important in some aspect. But there will be "recap up to witch queen" videos around before expansion launched.

Witch Queen was really good - the legendary campaign was great (better than recent halo many said in terms of pew pew)

They've announced no more removing of DLC btw and all the expacs are free for the week

Not sure about this season or arc 3.0 but Kings Fall looks amazing on PS5 (raid location/boss spoilers)

It's kind of a shame we may never see Destiny 3 as the graphics of the series have always been extremely good.
A new PS5/XSX Destiny 3 could have been spectacular.
I still think it looked great on PS4 Pro.

What have they changed in King's Fall compared to the original?

Mechanics are all similar but a little different
There’s also a puzzle to make a chest with guaranteed red bar spawn

That’s the only raid I’ve ever done. End boss was wicked.

It was class. Still my favourite raid.

Peter Crisp at the jumping sections :fp:

IIRC how it used to be - they've made the jumping section much easier (you also get a DPS phase on Oryx rather than the bombs doing the damage, so you can do it quicker where originally you had to do 4 rounds of 4 bombs regardless) but everyone might have to do it rather than being able to assign a runner

New mission end up end season of the seraph/lead into lightfall.

Mission is good fun and narrative is building!

Yes, I well and trully sucked at those.
Sorry about that :fp: .
I just couldn't get the hang of it and the more I failed the more my self confidence nosedived making my performance even more comically bad.

Our group was amazing though and was extremely patient with my incompetance, it was a sad day when it finally disbanded.

As much as I've moaned about Destiny it was one of my fondest gaming memories along with Last of Us multiplayer and Driveclub.

Rumours abound that The Final Shape DLC release date is to be delayed from February 2024 until June. This could be due to the news emerging earlier of of some Bungie staff being laid off.

Officially delayed -

Naturally, this change brings up questions about our upcoming release calendar. Season of the Wish begins tomorrow and will extend until the launch of The Final Shape in June. While the majority of content and narrative for Season of the Wish will run from late November to February as originally planned, the team is adding new content available for all players to jump into until the launch of The Final Shape.

In February, this will include new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes, and the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards. Next, we're moving Guardian Games up to March with a refreshed focus on class vs. class competition. Then, beginning in April, we're delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian's journey into the Traveler. All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from our PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May.
