End of season 4 without question. A bit of an obvious choice I know but it totally blew me away at the time

Took me days to recover from the shock of that!

The fact season 7 was so strawberry floating good after the gooseberry fool fest that was season 6. I have high hopes now, but we'll see. I thought Isaak was the best villain in the show so far also.

New dexter :dread:

I think I enjoyed the trinity series the most. The Hendersons guy was so damn good in that role.

Really? I thought 7 was cliche and predictable. They wasted a great opening and missed a brilliant opportunity with Lewis. Plus quinns story was blatant filler.

Definitely peaked at series 4 with trinity, he was a real monster.

The last episode of season 7 was the best for me. I thought it was very powerful in the final scenes with Deb, Dexter and Laguerta in the shipping container. And Jennifer Carpenter deserves an Emmy or something for her performance in this season.

Trinity was amazing. Even if Lithgow was just playing a slightly more psychotic version of the character he played in Footloose.

Carpenter has been holding the show together since S5, IMO.

Season 7 was definitely an improvement over 5 and 6. We're now at the stage where enough time has passed to reflect on it without having recent memories affect our judgement. Some of the positives were obviously Isaak, a great character, perhaps the best out and out villain the show has seen (though it's a shame the plot surrounding his involvement wasn't terribly interesting), Deb finally learning the truth about Dexter, and a few really terrific episodes here and there.

I don’t think it troubles the top spots, but I would say it's probably as good as the third season. Season 3 falls down because, despite Jimmy Smits being outstanding as Miguel, there wasn't enough focus on the skinner which, all in all, was rather uninspiring.

1 > 4 > 2 > 3 > 7 > 5 > 6

S6 was so bad that 5 looked a masterpiece in comparison.

I reckon some of the forthcoming episodes in season 8 will be contenders for the best in the entire series, especially if Dexter is caught. Many opportunities here for Michael C Hall to do some great acting.

I like Dexter but I think the show suffers as they seem to think that they have to give him a sidekick every season. British woman, Miguel, Lumen, Trinity, etc. I preferred season one where he was alone and struggling to even comprehend normal humans.

Having said that, I enjoyed the last season and am interested to see how they are going to end things. I can't see them allowing him to be caught and put on trial (the whole season would be his trial, his appeal, his second appeal and years and years on death row). If this is really the last season, then I guess he is going to get killed, maybe in a shootout with the police (or Deb?) in the final episode?

It's possible Deb will have to kill him, yeah, or maybe she will want to.

They could just end it with him being caught, red-handed as it were, amid a blaze of sirens.

Or with him going on the run and the viewer never finds out what happens to him.

After shooting La Guarda in cold blood, I don't see Deb turning on Dexter now, unless she is forced to. I can see her being called out to a siege where a killer is holed up and opening fire, not realising it is Dexter.

I've already dreamt up my ideal ending for the show. He gets caught in the last episode and you see him go to jail. You see him in the prison cell (or being led to one) and the door is locked. The credits roll. Then you hear an alarm at the prison and the camera follows a trail of blood through the corridors and passes a few bodies. There's a door wide open leading out of the prison and you know he has escaped. Then it ends.

(This is also my ideal ending for Breaking Bad!)

That doesn't sound like something Dexter would do.

He wouldn't kill a few prison guards in order to escape a death sentence or life in prison? He has killed other people who were onto him, including Laguerta (well, if Deb hadn't have done it for him).

Yeah, Quinn's storyline was filler, but most of the stories not involving Dexter are filler, it's just one of those things. His story was certainly better than him and Angel going around fighting all season 6. I disagree about Lewis, they obviously had no idea what to do with him and I thought it was kinda funny how just in the end he died a pretty pathetic death. He was a problem but he didn't fit into the grand scheme of things, so he had to go. The rest though was done great, the new dynamic between Dex and Deb was great and I loved some of the smaller moments. Don't get me wrong, it's not the best season of the show, but it was miles better than 5 and 6.
