I started this yesterday, and loved every minute. It feels reassuringly old fashioned, but they've taken some of the most addictive elements of WoW and mixed them in. It is a little hammy though, I can't help but roll my eyes every time I hear about the Skeleton King. I loved how far away the camera is, which possibly sounds like a strange compliment, but everything these days is much lower and closer to your character. There's a charm to isometric design, particularly the environments. I didn't get very far, still in the first act at around level 10, but after putting on that ring you get for linking your Battle.net account I feel a bit invincible. Things rarely seem to hurt me. Was very excited to get wings, watching the videos SoK had been posting, I wanted wings too!

I'm not sure about levelling merchants up though, do I concentrate on one, or level them all up? Is there a limited time to kill those loot Goblins or can I leisurely bash them? I got some lovely kit from one.

Drop everything when you see a Goblin. They'll teleport away after a short time.

As for merchants, the gold cost escalates at a rate that means it's easier to level them all equally.

Thanks! I chased that Goblin quite far into the map, as I assumed that he would escape, but it's good to have it confirmed.

I loved the Jar of Souls event thing in one of the maps too. Lots of fun and great rewards.

I would say level all the merchants, but don't bother crafting anything from Haedrig until max level unless you've got some woefully under-levelled gear; you'll be replacing it soon enough.

Definitely go after the goblins, there is also a rare chance that when you kill them their portal opens and you can go to their treasure realm. At which point you'll be like:

Unless you're playing in hardcore mode, you have nothing to lose (not even a trophy or achievement -if achievements are the same across platforms) in bumping up the difficulty. You're rewarded for it, actually. So if it's getting too easy/boring bump it up a level for quicker levelling, better quality loot and an increase gold/other drops.

Oh! I had no idea you could adjust the difficulty throughout. Thanks, I'll give it a bump.

You can only bump it up or down 1 level in play. You need to go back to title to have free choice of difficulty.

Is it best to get through the story stages as quickly as possibly, or to go through them slowly and do the optional dungeons and what have you?

Was playing it with my friend last night, and while I tend to explore everywhere I can go - which leads to missions lasting a decent chunk - he told me to leave the optional stuff as I'd be coming back and doing the levels again and again anyway.

Speed through, once you hit the end you should unlock adventure mode.

Remembered you can assign a secondary attack to be a primary one yesterday after finding a legendary quiver which removes the casting cost or Rapid fire (DH), My DH is practically unstoppable now so will probably need to up the difficulty level to keep things interesting.

Might even dare to attempt Torment.

Another thing, where do you find the crafting materials for the hellfire ring/amulet?

1. Kill the Keywardens in A1-4.
2. Use the special items they drop in a certain location to unlock boss fights.
3. Use the items these bosses drop to craft the Hellfire items.

It's not really worth doing until you can manage higher torments as the drops scale with difficulty.

I got mine the other day. Levelling with 'em is quite funny.

So, at level 30, should I be sticking gems and whatnot on armour/weapon slots, or just stockpiling them until I hit level 70?

If they are abundant, I can do so, but if they are rare, I don't want to have wasted them on stuff I don't use.

Also, the combat is a little...repetitive so far. Does it get better? I am mainly just hammering the same two buttons. I don't really come close to dying as I regenerate so much health per second.

I'm playing on the middle difficulty too, often solo. It's more of a slog than being hard, as enemies just take longer to die.

Gems are quite common, As you level up you get better and better gems drop, so you may as well use whatever you get. Don't bother combining gems as thats a waste of money, at least until you hit 70.

Keep pushing the difficulty if its too easy.

I have multiple of the special items from the Keywardens. Do you fancy doing this sometime Akai?

I went for the Hellfire ring when money was tight, so the 5 million cost actually had to be saved up for.

And it was a tragic disappointment. Not worth the effort at all.

I have a couple of complete keys (whatever they're called they open the portal anyway) for the uber boss fights and I was waiting until I had a few of us so we'd both benefit from them. I can give this a shot after work tonight if you like?
I usually get on for 9.
