Oh come off it, I’m one of the worst bleeding heart leftie liberal white knights on this forum and even I’d stretch to make ‘don’t make Diablo into a pay-to-wait mobile shitheap’ part of the same misogynist dumpster fire that was GamerGate.

To even equivocate the two only lessens the legacy of how damaging GamerGate was to the community.

They’re not even in the same ballpark.

We don't live in a socialist utopia though, where this observation would stand up. We live in a capatilist world where you pay for what you want and complain about it when it isn't as you like it.

It does seem like they did this completely on purpose fully aware of what the reaction would be. Everyone's now talking about it and it's getting more publicity than it ever would have done otherwise.

I get both sides of the argument tbh. I agree that you should be allowed to criticise products that you pay for, especially fans of said product who have paid the people who make the thing they like to go to an event that is supposed to be for the community. It is a bit shitty to stand in front of that crowd and announce that they should be excited for a product that isn't for them and it's a bit of a cynical cash grab using the license that they love.

However, the person offering criticism did so in a dickish way. I'm not going to side with Taf and suggest that this person is a hitler-esq personification of women hating evil but he was very obnoxious. If he had actually said "are you seriously showing this game in front of your devout following at Blizzcon?" I don't think anyone would question what was said but being so overtly rude is unnecessary.

I understand the criticism of fans online getting angry, but I totally agree with Skarjo. What on earth were Blizzard thinking? They hyped new Diablo announcements were coming at Blizzcon. Hardcore fans have travelled from around the world, and you give them a reskinned chinese mobile game?!?

In other Diablo news, I got Diablo 3 for Switch on Friday, and played far too much over the weekend. Got my Demon Hunter to level 70 (+Paragon 19).

I guess my point about the way people reacted to EA and their mobile C&C was correct as it's been ignored.

Damn man, the bald dude asked the right question. Blizzard had been hyping up a Diablo announcement for months. Yes they back tracked a bit, but only very recently. Remember that would be after everyone had purchased tickets. Again they had said multiple Diablo projects through out the year, so people still believed in something either Diablo II HD or a Diablo Netflix series, heck even Diablo IV still as they did the whole daft thing with their no Switch version coming announcement.

So you had a lot of Diablo fans that paid a lot of money to be at that event, the conference times were announced, so they knew they would have a big piece of news for Diablo as the final showing, and they present them with a mobile game. That bald guy most likely felt conned, and I think its fair of him to ask that, and in that manner.

Blizzard totally dropped the ball here, that is the only story. It is not just the mobile game being announced, it is the fact they have mislead their fan base.

I get this was "their" (it is outsourced) only "new" game. However it should not have been the headline announcement, heck they should probably have announced it outside of Blizzcon, if they had done that we would not be having this discussion.

That said people will get over it, and play the game, I am sure it will be great. Just honestly someone in the PR department needs a big slap

Yeah topping off a pretty poor Blizzcon with a simple mobile game made by another developer is a bad move.

Both in terms of expectations and knowing your fan base.

It's pretty simple as I see it, booing is just rude and having watched the video I'd have been embarassed to be there.

By all means criticise the handling of the hype and announcement build up by blizzard. Just don't be a dick about it.

Silent indifference (or disappointment) would have been a more damning reaction anyway imo

Oh, so basically Blizzard knew exactly what they were doing. Get the fans worked up into a frenzy, then "respond" to that frenzy with something to placate and excite them (Diablo 4 on PC), all while getting the news about Diablo Immortal spread faster and further than it otherwise would have been.
