Happy Birthday GRCade, without a doubt my favourite place on the internet.

For any newer members I also joined in 2008 but my account "somehow" broke and Gecko had to restore me as a new user. :toot:

It first died on 6 October 2010.

Hang on... so we've all been dead for thirteen years? I didn't join until 2012 ("n00b scum!1" etc) so maybe I've only been dead for eleven years?

Actually you keep falling in and out of a coma, it explains the multiple accounts

I marked the occasion by recently hitting 10k posts. Only taken 15 years.

No I really did accidentally delete your account instead of a bot or something and then had to devise an SQL query to associate all of your posts with a new doppelganger account that you could log in as.

So who knows whether it is you who have been posting all of this time or it is just you posting inside the skin of your former self as yourself. Something to think about. :toot:

I remember getting back from holiday and logging onto Gameradar wondering what all the fuss was about! I still find it amazing the community not only had its own exodus but picked up some stragglers along the way.

Whilst I am sure there are other independent phpbb forums out there still (Imagine the alternative and having to use Reddit *shudder*) this is the only one I can think of with such a close knit family.

Here’s to Web 1.0.

Earliest .co.uk archive link: https://web.archive.org/web/20120402222 ... ade.co.uk/

(.com probably vanquished because of permanent redirect.)

At that time 53 registered members were online and there were just shy of 2.5 million posts.

Now we are heading towards 5 million.

543,911 page captures and 309,502 URLs.

6,426 PNGs.

3,532 GIFs.

https://web.archive.org/details/https://grcade.co.uk/

But mostly a bot hopelessly trying to archive various user profile pages, trying to press the quote button under every post, and sometimes archiving entire pages of JavaScript just because it gets stuck and doesn't know what else to do with such a technically massive source text and links with a lot of them being dead ends.

Tbh it's pretty cool archive.org considers GRcade significant enough to store bits of it over 2000 times. For example, here's the Games (formerly General Games Chat or "GGC") forum on 2nd April 2012, a couple of months before I graduated university. Which was 11 years ago. strawberry floating hell.

Still withstanding Wikipedia section which I had nothing to do with: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GamesRadar%2B

I’ve been away for a while and wow - 15 years! This place has forever shaped my brain as every time I see a news story about someone crashing into a building I always say “guess they thought it was a drive thru”. It never gets a laugh.

To think I was a teenager waiting for his GCSE results when this place started and now I’m 31 years old with rapidly greying hair. Time makes fools of us all.
