Can't remember. I was on drugs and booze at the time, living my best life. More like Gran Off-my-tits-mo 3.

Unless you were one of those Xbox men with your hard dicks drive, you probably remember that PS2 and Gamecube cases had space for a memory card. Did you ever use it? And if so, what exotic locations did you take it.

No. But Constructor on PS1 came with its own memory card, because the save data used the entire card, but the PS1 cases didn't have the slot for it so it just rattled around between the disc and the manual.

I seem to remember a GC game that similarly needed a whole card. Baten Kaitos, maybe? But I never put the card in the case.

I think Animal Crossing came with a card on the GameCube but I'm not sure if it's because it took up so much space or if it was just a promotional thing?

I never really had enough memory cards to necessitate having a place to keep them to be honest.

Yeah, that's probably the one I'm thinking of.

I think perhaps once or twice I did, if going over to a friend's house and wanting to make sure we could access certain levels or characters using my save data.

Always seemed like an odd thing to include in every case, as if games requiring a whole memory card to themselves was commonplace, or carrying memory cards around was some kind of regular activity (and even if it was, why would you choose a game case to transport it in).

I used it for taking games to a friend, yeah. Then also used it back when my PS2 and GC were in storage before getting my own place and digging them out again. Now I can't imagine a reason to do it outside of a retro night at a friend's.

I'm totally up for this fantastic new "KK asks..." series! :toot: .

Crumbs. I guess that I was one of those, though!

I always thought it odd that Nintendo DS game cases had a space for a GBA cart in them. Maybe some folk used them?

Back in my C64 days of the 80s, some games (such as Elite) allowed for game saves to be made to a cassette. It was a slow process!

Wow! I hadn't known about this. Cool fact.

1) Probably cheaper to have fewer box designs when churning out millions of game boxes
2) Deciding which games "needed" a holder would have caused a huge amount of grief just to save a mg of plastic
3) If you are transporting a game and a memory card for whatever reason keeping them together in one package is by far the simplest and safest way.

I never had more than two memory cards and didn't use them for transport, but for console storage and house moves they were a godsend.

I've got a number of official PlayStation (PSone) sealed memory cards; I grabbed 'em cheap from Dixons when PSone was on the way out. I wonder if they'd still work or if age has halted them now?

Edit: Looked at eBay sold prices... crikey! Maybe £50+ each?!? There are even "VGA"-rated ones! :fp: .

The saves of some Gamecube games couldn't be moved across memory cards ( *cough* F-Zero GX) - meaning your save was permanently locked to whichever card you happened to originally save it to. I have no idea how or why that 'feature' was implemented but it was bloody irritating because, whilst the initial memory cards were tiny in terms of storage space, Nintendo eventually did publish some higher capacity cards. This allowed players to move several normal memory cards worth of save files across to the larger capacity card, having all save data in one place.

In my case, I had three of the bog-standard cards full and was able to transfer all my saves onto the newer, larger card - except F-Zero GX.

What's worse is that, again, for some strange reason, you couldn't copy F-Zero's save data either, meaning you had to hope that your memory card never corrupted. It was only a few years ago when I modded my Wii to enable backup of all my GC saves and finally move the F-Zero data across the card which holds all my other save data via SD card.

Made use of the, a fair bit, always kept my Animal Crossing GC card in its box for example, was neat when I took Double Dash to a mates as then we had a completed save to choose from.

I remember when I first got my PS1, I got FIFA 97 and a memory card with it. As my 10 year old brain didn't really grasp the full concept of a memory card, I thought the memory card was just for that game specifically, as opposed to being a card that contained multiple save slots, so I wrote "My FIFA 97 Card" across it in permanent marker .

Still have it to this day

edit: sorry OP, to answer your question YES, I did used to put my FIFA 97 memory card in my FIFA 97 box, although now that I'm typing this out I seem to remember that being a jewel case that didn't have a dedicated memory card slot so perhaps my whole life is a lie or I'm in Quantum Leap :?

I said no in the poll but then remembered I did this too. My AC card I only used for AC.

Yeah back in’t days of GR I imported a US version of AC for GC from PlayAsia. Had a NES version of Donkey Kong on it I think. After that I also imported a 1019 card to cope with most of my save demands

All the time. It was mainly when I carted my GameCube from the Midlands to Essex and back whilst I was at Uni and I needed somewhere safe to keep it.

Mine had Balloon Flight on it.

I also only used that memory card for AC.

Could you have loaded the F-Zero save then hot swapped it with the new memory card and saved it again? Curious as to whether that would work.
