How anyone can put 4 before any of the others is beyond me. It didn't even feel like a Die Hard film, just some random action flick.

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

Die Hard 4 is just like 3. But swapping Samuel L Jackson with Justin Long. And it works well.

Die Hard 2 is just a poor attempt at copying the original but failing.

Or something like that.

Anyways, tl;dr : 1 > 3 >> 4 >>> 2. Fact! Now lets have no more on the subject. Trapper this.

Edit: Even IMdb knows it's true: 1 - 8.3, 2 - 7.0, 3 - 7.5, 4 - 7.4.

Though I'd agree that 4 doesn't feel like a Die Hard film, on the whole it's a better silly action film (which is what they all are) than 2 is.

I read somewhere ages ago that Die Hard 2's script is a left over james bond storyline?

Never heard that before, but I have heard that Die Hard 3 was originally a Lethal Weapon film. Which makes sense as it's a white guy teaming up with a black guy and in the end it was all the fault of Jews.

Hadn't heard that one before.

I believe the original was originally going to be a sequel to Commando. And Die Hard 3 was going to be a Lethal Weapon sequel. So wouldn't be surprised if 2 was at one point a Bond film.

Die Hard 4 was apparently a generic action flick script too before it took the name and changed the main character to John McClane. Some might argue that's painfully obvious from the way the movie turned out.

This is one of the biggest problems. The fact that the script was originally not even a Die Hard film and was later re-written to make it one really shows. Willis doesn't even really come across as his usual John McClane self, they really shouldn't have made it a Die Hard movie and just left it as the generic action movie it was meant to be. Die Hard 4 can just bugger off.

4 has Justin Long in it so its plainly the worst. The presence of Kevin Smith just copperfastens its place as the runt of the litter.

Two was a cop out though. It would of been the exact same if Gandalf revealed himself as a bad guy in Lord of the Rings with ten minutes of the film to go.

The original film was never a Die Hard film. The third film was never origianlly a Die Hard film. So that's a pish reason for hating on Die Hard 4. It's as much a Die Hard film as any of the others. And better than Die Harder.

That's really not the best argument to make considering it's the same for Die Hard (Commando 2) and with a Vengeance (Simon Says/Lethal Weapon)

It's just one of many reasons, the difference being with DH4 they were unable to rework the script to at least give the film a similar feel and the overall story is pretty uninspiring. It just feels like a shallow husk of a film with a poor plot and the weakest villain out of all the series imo. McClane's character here is also poorly written/incorporated and even more diluted than in previous instalments. Add in Justin Longs character who doesn't have half the chemistry with Willis as other actors did in the previous 3 films and you're just left with a rather unsatisfying experience.

I suppose it all comes down to your own personal taste and how you like your action films, but for me 4.0 is still the weakest in the series.

Why does everyone hate 2 so much?

It goes 1 > 2 > 3 > 4
