Despite owning a "next-gen" system since late 1999 with the Dreamcast, this was the first game that actually looked like a generational leap.

Dat rain :datass:

This game was a masterpiece. strawberry float the haters. Sure the story was a bit mental and you didn't get to play snake the second chapter of the game. But there were so many details in the levels and was so engrossing to play.

The demo was better than many full priced games. It's my second favorite MGS after 5. The level of detail was insane and even now it looks so clean and polished. Would pay for a re re re release on PS4.

Wish my image sig would work

I loved this game.

It was a huge disappointment.

I played it so many times and had so many great experiences.

I'm not sure I've ever felt so let down by a game.

Yeah, I'm still not sure how to reconcile my feelings on this one. It was a landmark game, but I couldn't help but feel more disappointed as that first play through went on. The hype of the trailer and the weight of pressure coming from how much I'd loved the previous game just made it impossible to meet my expectations, that and the fact that I still maintain that the tanker chapter is far better than anything that came after (and not just because of the character switch, I've no real beef with Raiden!).

It's similar to how I feel about MGSV, clearly a flawed game in many ways, but undoubtedly an amazing experience and one I would never want to have missed.

I don't get why people hated Raiden so much, not playing as Snake didn't have any effect on gameplay at all.

The worst thing wasn't that you didn't get to play as Snake for much of the game, it was that most of the game was set on an oil rig that just wasn't anywhere near as interesting or varied as the tanker from the opening.

The greatest demo in history. If I remember the tanker portion only lasts an extra 40 minutes or so once the demo concludes. The oil rig just wasn't as interesting, the storyline in turn going totally mental. The amount of talking/codec sequences was unbelievable as well. The tanker set up a game that for me then never arrived. It was like 'what the hell happened to the game I was just playing?!'

On its own, those first few hours produced the greatest moment(s) in the history of Metal Gear Solid. But as a whole, MGS2 is the weakest of all 5 games.

Literally one of the worst games I've ever played.

An amazing technical achievement for sure and way ahead of it's time in terms of mechanics and things you could do, but I never got on with it. The opening hour or so is fantastic but it goes way downhill from there and it has nothing to do with Raiden. The Oil Rig is just so strawberry floating dull as a setting and the story is pure convoluted, overbearing shite.

That was a really interesting watch. MGS2 is probably still the most technically impressive game for its time to me, even though I was only 8 when it was released I don't think I've played a game since that has wowed me quite as much. It still looks great today as well.

I appreciate MGS2 a lot more as it gets older, not that I ever disliked it. I could make a good argument for it being the most important game that I've personally played, it's one of the few instances where I've taken something away from a game experience that I consider useful in my own life.

And Solidus is the GOAT!

I remember buying a pirate copy of what I thought was the demo from a stall in the Chinese Market in Kuala Lumpur, turned out to be the entire game. This was at least a month before it got released in the U.K. So I was absolutely buzzing to play it. I didn't feel disappointed with the game at all, but looking back after many years I can now see the flaws. It's still a classic for me though and a strong entry in the MGS series, but it has been surpassed.

No beef with Raiden either, if anything it made your encounters with Snake more thrilling because you got to see him action without actually controlling him.
