Currently £22.49 on Steam (till 4th of May), 3 locations (Wales, Monte Carlo and Acropolis) with 36 stages and 17 cars. More to follow in the coming months (Pike's Peak in May, Germany in June), no microtransactions and all updates throughout the life of the game will be free to anyone who buys the game.

Its apparently Codemasters first sim racing game, they've gotten rid of the rewind feature completely and the new physics engine focuses on the road surface (the chief game designer was involved with Sega Rally Revo)

Out of strawberry floating nowhere or what. First they cure Dirt 3 of GFWL cancer and offer it up with all the DLC, now a proper rally-focused DiRT game, like the good old days.

According to the FAQ on the Codemasters blog they've got the FIA World Rallycross license too, which should balance out the game nicely. Anywho, system specs:

Minimum Specifications

OS: Windows 7 64 bit or Windows 8.1 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon x2 Dual Core or Intel Core 2 Duo Processor @ 2.4Ghz
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: AMD HD5450 or Nvidia GT430 or Intel HD4000 with 1GB of VRAM
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 30GB available space
Sound Card: Direct X compatible soundcard

Recommended Specifications
OS: Windows 7 64 bit or Windows 8.1 64 bit
Processor: AMD FX-8150 or Intel Core i5 4670K
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphics: AMD R9 290 or Nvidia GTX780
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 30GB available space
Sound Card: Direct X compatible soundcard

What wheels and controllers are supported by DiRT Rally?
Official Xbox 360 Wireless Pad
Official Xbox 360 Wired Pad
Logitech G27
Logitech G25
Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing Wheel
Thrustmaster T500 RS F1 Racing Wheel
Fanatec Clubsport Base v1
Fanatec Clubsport Base v2

More wheel support is coming too.

Here's some gameplay:

EDIT: from an article on Eurogamer it seems that Pikes Peak will be in both the current tarmacked and older un-tarmacked forms, also no rewinds or steering/braking assists of any kind.

I'm excited but I'm not touching early access with a barge pole.

...And downloading now. Can't wait. As Trelliz says - this came out of nowhere. Hope it runs okay on my GTX 760!

Apparently the content that is there isn't really 'early access' quality at all, more like the finished article.

Having said that it does appear that there are already issues, a number of people reporting that the download doesn't include the .exe file to run the game (EDIT - actually that appears to have been fixed already with a patch).

I am quietly more enthusiastic. I'm going to take comments from other videos/discussions, but I think this is a more pragmatic and at the same time more confident approach.

Compare this to the buildup to Grid 2. Grid 2 had weeks and weeks of PR hype, weekly stream videos showing off this, that and the other; all before anyone could actually play it for themselves to see if it's up to snuff. Now, however, it's announced and available on the same day. As such, there are already streams of it; there are more eyes and hands on it to give impressions beyond the PR marketing hype. If it's good then people will say it's good, same with if it's bad.

The Grid and Dirt games may not have been the best games of late, but I still enjoyed them. Dirt Showdown was silly and stupid but was still entertaining. Grid 2 and Autosport were not the next coming of rFactor but still had a lot of content and stuff to do, while looking great and nailing the race festival atmosphere. I'm interested to see where they go with this as a total change in direction, and am fairly optimistic.

Early access makes no difference to a game like this. They probably only did it because their quarterly financials reports were going to be gooseberry fool otherwise.

This is a big game made by a bigish studio. No matter how much 'constructive feedback' they get it wont make a jot of difference. Its a big team and they wont change direction on some forum posts. They just want your money now on the promise that its deffo gonna be really good. It'll probably be a solid 7.5 in the end, but this is purely a financial move, and a vague attempt at patching up with all of the dedicated fans they have strawberry floated over in the last few years.

Big studios doing early access and taking payment up front for unfinished products is dodgy at best and shady as strawberry float at worst.

Fine.

This is a tiny game by a struggling arthouse studio.

Or not.

Not quite sure how to describe the game seeing as they are clear that it isn't Dirt 4, but my point was that it Codemasters apparently aren't a bigish studio any more. Of course that doesn't make them a 'struggling arthouse studio' although struggling might be apt.

They still employ 800 people. Their profits are gooseberry fool because they have spent the past 3-4 years shitting on the people who used to buy their games.

Its early access.

I don't think they've ruled out bringing this (or something like it) to consoles, you are just going to have to wait.

Do they?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- ... odemasters

EDIT -

The team behind the new Dirt has been downsized, though, with a smaller group working on the game compared to last year's Grid Autosport. One source pointed out that the new Dirt team has always been relatively small, however, with under 20 staff building the game compared to the 50 or so who made Grid Autosport.

So apparently 20 people working on the game...pretty small dev team wouldn't you say?

I presume a lot of the people they do employ have been working on F1 2015 which is their big new 'next-gen' game, rather than this anyway.

Ah, my information was old. This tiny global company only employs 500 people.

Although my digging into the company financials seems to support my theory that this 'early access' is plain and simple, a desperate cash grab whilst they can.

So they are a big global company...but they are desperate for money?

I'm not entirely sure what you are getting at. As I said it does appear to have been made by a pretty small team of people, if its been released now because the company needs the money why would I care if the game has finished content (as seems to have been reported) just not that much of it.

Its been made on the old engine by the way, presumably with the new physics stuff added. I don't quite see what your problem with it is.
