I think you've misread that.

The game has finished content, so why would I care if its only been put out because the company needs money.

Because its a shady business practice to make you pay for something that isnt done so they can boost their numbers?

Hold on, they are 'making' me pay for something?

Because I was thinking that I'd bought something I was interested in. Is that not the case?

...So, actual game impressions time.

It has a Forza-style risk/reward system whereby turning off assists (traction control, ABS, auto gearbox), setting things like manual launch (where you have to hold the handbrake and not jump the start) , or locking the view to interior only etc. increases how much you win from races.

Can run every stage at night with rain/snow :dread:

Graphically it's perfectly capable. It autodetected my system to ultra, but dropped a couple of frames constantly so hit it down to High, and it looks the same to me but runs at full fps all the time. It has a benchmark tool as well which is handy.

Interior FOV slider.

Man, the roads really are narrow. Whereas with Dirt 3 you could swing the car around however you like on pretty wide tracks, on these you feel very hemmed-in on roads that are not meant to be blasted down like this. Only dabbled in a couple, haven't tried the full career yet, but seems like you have to manage your team both in terms of repair time between stages and hiring mechanics etc.

Car selection is limited at the moment but good, covers all the bases from 60s cars like the Mini and Lancia Fulvia through the usual Group B/Group A favourites to modern stuff like the new Mini and Ford Fiesta (no Ken Block liveries in sight).

On that note, no "hey bro, how's it going" bullshit, and the pace notes are in proper rally-speak with no option to dumb it down as far as I can see. Also indeed no rewinds or any of that; you go big or you go home (or, as is more likely, into a ditch/tree).

Or else.

We've made a new game, we've got some content ready for you to play, if you want you can buy the game now for a lesser price and we'll continue to update it at least over the next few months.

That coupled with positive review/previews and there's no need to take their word for anything.

Also, can you stop taking a quote out of context to mean the exact opposite of what I said in your sig please.

My worry would be that not enough people buy it and they end up doing what Double Fine did with their spacestation game - the early access money was meant to fund development and when there wasn't enough of it, they just stopped and released a game that many would consider calling half baked as being generous.

Here's a video of me driving badly in the rain on one of the Wales' stages. In-car view + full replay.

Game's good. Definitely a genuine rally sim. Codies got the message. With lots more free updates to come, this could get interesting.

I think it depends on what you want out of a game like this.

The release version has 3 locations, 36 stages and 17 cars. They've committed to a further 2 locations, it might not be the case but that could mean another 12 stages per location, which would put it at 60 stages.

Looking back at Dirt 3, it launched with 8 locations but only 4 had rally stages and I'm pretty sure there weren't 12 of them at any of the locations.

Assuming no more updates after those already announced, I don't think the amount of content is really an issue.

The other thing being there's no sign of any Gymkhana bollox this time around. Result. :toot:

So like an excited little puppy I purchased the early access for this and to my absolute dismay it crashes every time at the race start. Apparently I'm not the only one having this issue and as yet there is no solution.

Hmmm. What's your PC spec? I'm running a fairly mid-range-to-low-end GTX 760 2GB on an i7 @2.80GHz with 12GB RAM @1920x1080 (hardly a stellar gaming rig these days). I'm not having any issues with the game - even the frame rate is pretty much holding up at more or less 'High' GFX settings.

GTX760 4GB, i7 with 16GB RAM. Haven't had any problems with other titles, only this one.

Just to be clear, there's absolutely nothing 'low-end' about that spec.

Hope it gets fixed soon, any idea what's causing it?

Just finished my first championship in 3rd to get promoted to Clubman, found the Monte Carlo stages much easier than the others probably because I'm pretty sure they the same stages that are in the Dirt 3 DLC.

Really enjoying it so far, it's basically a hardcore rally expansion for Dirt 3, anyone who complained about Dirt over the years really ought to get this game if they really just wanted a Rally game.

No idea, Hugo. I've un-installed it and am currently re-downloading it on the outside chance that will change things. Only bummer is Virgin Media is being a bitch tonight and is slow. Not my day.

finally a real rally game from Codemasters :toot:

it doesn't look that pretty though, but if it's fun to play I'll buy the full game whenever they finish making it.

Sure whatever it is will get sorted, what OS are you running?

EDIT - Have you tried running the .exe in compatibility mode? Apparently has worked for someone running in 640x480, presumably you can then change the resolution ingame.

Depends what you mean by not looking that pretty.

Its running on the same graphics engine that Dirt 3 had and it looks like it. On the other hand it still makes it the best looking rally game you can currently get.
