...So, actual game impressions time.
It has a Forza-style risk/reward system whereby turning off assists (traction control, ABS, auto gearbox), setting things like manual launch (where you have to hold the handbrake and not jump the start) , or locking the view to interior only etc. increases how much you win from races.
Can run every stage at night with rain/snow
Graphically it's perfectly capable. It autodetected my system to ultra, but dropped a couple of frames constantly so hit it down to High, and it looks the same to me but runs at full fps all the time. It has a benchmark tool as well which is handy.
Interior FOV slider.
Man, the roads really are narrow. Whereas with Dirt 3 you could swing the car around however you like on pretty wide tracks, on these you feel very hemmed-in on roads that are not meant to be blasted down like this. Only dabbled in a couple, haven't tried the full career yet, but seems like you have to manage your team both in terms of repair time between stages and hiring mechanics etc.
Car selection is limited at the moment but good, covers all the bases from 60s cars like the Mini and Lancia Fulvia through the usual Group B/Group A favourites to modern stuff like the new Mini and Ford Fiesta (no Ken Block liveries in sight).
On that note, no "hey bro, how's it going" bullshit, and the pace notes are in proper rally-speak with no option to dumb it down as far as I can see. Also indeed no rewinds or any of that; you go big or you go home (or, as is more likely, into a ditch/tree).
