My copy turned up this morning, been putting it through its paces.

It doesn't look quite as good as it does on my PC, but the game isn't really about its graphics anyway. It plays just as good, framerate appears to be pretty smooth so far and the handling is pretty much spot on.

I really hope the game does well on console, its a great ride. Another couple of videos of a stage run, this time in Wales, first one was my actual run and the second is the replay of it...

Graphics look a bit plain, like it's an upscaled last gen game or something.

Yeah as far as I'm aware its basically the same engine they used for Dirt games before.

Graphically its obviously has higher res assets than the console version of previous Dirt games and its running at a fixed 60fps.

But that doesn't really tell the whole story, they completely overhauled the handling and specifically the way the tires interact with the different surfaces is completely different to the last gen games.

EDIT - For me its by far the best racing game available on consoles at the moment.

Wow, this is hard! I don't think reviews have enphasised this quite enough actually. The handling is the same as it's ever been (thankfully) but they've severely narrowed the tracks. 3rd race in (using the mini) and it's at night. Unlike any other Colin McRae in history if you take out the headlights you're...well, strawberry floated basically. Pitch black. You'd be better off getting out of the car and walking the rest of the way.

One can only imagine what the 4wd cars are going to be like on these courses. :dread:

No it isn't actually, that's one thing they have definitely changed.

Feels the same to me. I'm sure they've tweaked various things, but it's still in line with the Colin McRae/DiRT series. Only handling model I wasn't too keen on was CM 3 on PS2 - felt like the cars pivoted around a central rod in the middle of the car.

I wish there was a demo for this. It looks really good but I'd like to try it first just to see how I'd get on with the handling model.

They completely rebuilt the whole physics engine from the ground up to make it work on proper stages.

I have a copy arriving tomorrow (PS4 disk). I've had the PC version since it first came out, but I fancy playing this on the big tellie. It's really one of the best racing sims around.

Worth getting this full price? I hear it is lacking of cars and tracks and is a bit hard!

Got my PS4 Legend Edition today in the post - came with a separate Colin McRae DVD documentary and a code for the 'Fully Loaded Mini' pack for use in Rallycross.

I remember on the Videogamer podcast Jim talking about how the disc was so scratched it was unreadable, and he was amazed that the PR thought it was a good idea to send it in a jar of literal dirt, stones and all.

Wasn't able to buy this today from Sainsbury's :fp:

My local didn't have it on the shelves on the way to work this morning. I've been walking in every day since Friday on the off chance it went up early by accident.

Tried a different Sainsbury's driving home and they had the copy! But they couldn't do the Nectar double up voucher for me because it wasn't my primary Sainsbury's store  :fp: so I tried my local on the way home and still nothing, asked the old lady in charge or entertainment and after explaining what video games are to her, she looked in her stock drawer and couldn't find it.

Sainsbury's have the special ultra exclusive edition too. Fancy partnering up with a supermarket :fp: games industry :fp: :fp: :fp:

Depends.

If you want to play a Rally game then its not really lacking cars and to be honest there are plenty of stages (6 locations each with 12 stages if you include reverse stages, and you should because going the other way is completely different in Rally).

The Hillclimb is limited to Pikes Peak and there are only 2 locations for Rally Cross.

Its definitely difficult, but in a good way.

With dark souls 3 out next week i will probably wait as this looks like a game you need to dedicate time to. Looks pretty good to me and the framerate looks great.

Want to play, but reckon I'll wait until its reduced along with all the DLC as I'm a terrible person and got burnt by how guff the Dirt series was.
