For people that believe these things...

The latest YouGov voting intention survey for The Times, taken following the latest EU agreement, finds The Conservatives have retaken the lead over Labour for the first time in many months, with The Tories now on 42% (up from 40% last week) and Labour on 41%. The Liberal Democrat voting intention meanwhile stands at 7%.

The most popular party of those who define themselves as working class is Conservative (at 45%) and Labour on 40%.

On who would make the best Prime Minister, 37% of people prefer Theresa May while 28% favour Jeremy Corbyn. A further 35% chose Don’t Know.

Good move. Having visited the US I'm more in favour of progressive taxation than ever.

Doesn't seem like the bands are going to be a huge amount of difference, I mean we're talking about less than £1 a week if I'm guessing it right (I'm terrible at maths though). Kind of a waste of time.

The 19% band equates to £20 less tax a year. So there's no real tangible difference for people earning less than £33. It's a trip to the cinema for two people, or a cheap night at the pub.

Under the old bandings, assuming an income of £44,272 (The max before hitting the Higher 40% rate) you would pay £6,484.60 in Income Tax.
That's:
£11,850 @ 0% (Tax free allowance) = £0
£32,422 @ 20% = £6,484.60

Under the new bandings that would rise to £6,667.12.
That's:
£11,850 @ 0% (Tax free allowance) = £0
£2,000 @ 19% = £380
£10,150 @ 20% = £2,030
£20,272 @ 21% = £4,257.12

So it's a rise of £182.50 a year for people with that income, or £3.51 more a week.

Reading about this Commons drama, I'm wondering why voting is done in a way that isn't anonymous. Surely attributing each vote to a named person discourages MPs to vote in a way that represents what they truly believe is right, if it differs from the Party line?

But at the same time MPs could never be held accountable for their choices if voting was all completely anonymous.

Well, technically Fire does put out water if there's a lot more of it I suppose.
I guess you could get a fire sprinkler by just filling a regular sprinkler system with petrol and putting lighters on them.

It's hard to hold anyone accountable for anything if we have to assume that they're voting the way they've been told to, regardless of whether or not they actually believe in it.

Just emailed my local MP (Henry Smith, bloody Jonny Foreigner) about the proposed scrapping of the Childcare Vouchers scheme next year. Democracy is alive and well :toot:

I bet he doesn't even read it, the banana split :x
