The fact she's not doing this suggests to me that Philip isn't in the best of health.

Because it’s an easy way to get patriotic types frothed up.

Roaring about how much you support the troops probably takes the heat off a bit when you run editorials demanding military action over a patch of worthless scrub grass a thousand miles away.

It’s not just that (although it also is that!), it can be used for anything.

Black people kneeling for the anthem in protest at police murdering black people? SUPPORT DA TROOPS!

New laws being brought in to combat terrorism spy on the public? SUPPORT DA TROOPS!

Muslims existing? SUPPORT DA TROOPS!

Leader of the opposition caught “dancing”? SUPPORT DA TROOPS!

TV presenters shown without a plastic flower? SUPPORT DA TROOPS!

It’s easy and works every time.

Sorry, I should have been more specific that I was referring to Newton and the Sun in particular. Awful warmongers at that rag.

Isn't it about time politicians dropped this thoroughly embarrassing phrase?

America don't give a flying strawberry float. And I totally understand it.

Every Anglophone country seems to use this phrase, too. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, etc.

In the Cold War days it made sense. Nowadays? We are friendly countries but I wouldn’t count on America to do anything for us that they wouldn’t do for other allies.

Who do we have closer ties to at the moment? We've literally pissed off every other country in the world.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

Apparently at the Young Labour conference they voted in support of leaving the 'imperialist' NATO, voted for the end of freedom of movement and voted against a 2 state solution for Israel and Palestine. Very anti-US statements made too, with some stating Russia is not a threat... :dread:

I get that Trump is a complete dick, but let's not be short-sighted here!
