Looks like they won't be able to call themselves the main opposition because the SDP have just ruled out continuing the grand coalition with CDU/CSU.

Makes me wonder if that was a tactical move to avoid a far right party being able to claim to be the main opposition. Without the coalition Merkel no longer has a majority government but that is probably a price worth paying to prevent AfD getting more limelight.
