Yeah this, the Tory's are the ones who broke the law. I just hope something comes of it and just just another stupid fine, they are rich banana splits a pissy little fine isn't something they worry about.

How about a fine of 75% of their after-tax earnings for the last 25 years? Should put the fear of god into them.

Fining wealthy people and companies won't work unless you really hurt them with it.

A bunch of disgruntled people blaming others on their own problems, and finding purpose in hate.

Seems like a nice bunch.

I do loathe the phrase "champagne socialist". Fair enough if you're talking about a full on communist, but none of your average socialists advocate a 100% equal society, merely that we should raise enough in tax to fund the NHS and ensure poor people don't starve. A millionaire can believe in free education while also sipping an expensive drink.

Tony Robinson

I have a vague interest in the guy. I watched that show where he went to meet Muslims, and I genuinely thought he would learn something from the experience. Dude seems to have learned nothing. He tries to come across as reasonable but the mask slips a lot of time, revealing him to be antagonistic, out of his depth and exploitative.

All that digging on Time Team was just Robinson's way of promoting Anglo-Saxon culture.

I saw that Britain First rally in Birmingham yesterday. It was pretty paltry in size, and well contained by police. They were easily outnumbered by the counter protest, who also had the better chats.

This, it is a crap phrase and seems to suggest if you get rich you are aren't allowed to care about others. Just because you do t need help yourself doesn't mean you instantly forget about those that do and don't want to help.

The phrase says more about the person saying it, than it does about its target.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

In my experience if you are poor and criticise capitalist you are often called jealous and if you are well off and criticise capitalism you are called a 'champaign socialist'. In both cases it's just lazy ad hominem.

There's more to it than the tax rate anyway.

While the 'champagne socialists' may not benefit from the increased tax rates, they will likely benefit from better public transports links (either themselves, or their employees if they are business owners), better roads (I've lost count the amount of times I've been stuck on roads for hours on end (multiplied by everyone else on the road for work and that's some serious £ wasted), better education and healthcare = higher skilled and healthier work force to employ from, better quality materials in buildings (see the latest tower story where it's false economy cutting costs when residents now need to be housed in hotels while the previous job is taken down and redone again), higher wages = more money in the economy = your business will have higher takings.

If you look at the broader picture, even those who get taxed more will still benefit from the system as we are all connected one way or another. As soon as people look out for number 1 at whatever the cost, then the whole thing falls apart.
