Tens of thousands of Poles marched across downtown Warsaw on Saturday, in an independence-day procession organized by a nationalist youth movement that seeks an ethnically pure Poland with fewer Jews or Muslims.


The Radical Camp has been holding independence-day marches since 2009. Until several years ago, it struggled to attract more than a few hundred people. In the past three years, it has become the largest independence-day occasion in Poland, and one of the largest nationalist marches of its kind anywhere in Europe. Saturday’s was expected to be the largest ever. Police estimated the crowd at 60,000.

“It’s getting more and more vicious,” said Jakub Skrzypek, 25, one of about a dozen counterprotesters standing behind a banner that read “We Are Polish Jews” and surrounded by police. “We are really in fear.”

So reading up on this, it's an annual celebration of Polish independence. What most likely happened is around 1000 or 2000 right wing extremists took part with racist banners.

That's not a good thing by any stretch, the far right does appear to be gaining support, I'd condemn them as I would any extremist, but I highly, highly doubt there were 60,000 Nazis marching in Warsaw.

Edit: Just to say that if you do think there were 60,000 Nazis marching in Warsaw, do you not then think something has gone very seriously wrong on the continent?

Michael Gove has come under fire for saying he didn't know what Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was doing in Iran when she was arrested in 2016.

Mr Gove told Andrew Marr he would "take her husband's assurance" that the British-Iranian citizen was on holiday.

He was defending the foreign secretary, whose own comments have caused concern that her sentence could be extended.

Labour said he "was more interested in protecting (Boris) Johnson's job" than Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe's liberty.

Shadow Cabinet Office minister Jon Trickett said Mr Gove had "compounded" Mr Johnson's "cavalier approach to international diplomacy".

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's husband has issued a statement tonight saying he doesn't want Boris Johnson sacked as it would likely make the situation worse. Apparently they had a phone conversion today and will meet in-person at some point in the coming weeks.

Her situation is deteriorating though apparently.

The article says the march was organized by a neo nazi organisation, although it did take place on Polish independence day. It also points out that a number of people said they weren't fascists but they weren't bothered by the tone of the march. So it was 60,000 gooseberry fool heads, a large portion of who were fascists and the rest who are fine with fascists.

Also something really is wrong with Europe and the world in general at the moment.

Yeah, I mean, maybe I've watched too many movies, but I genuinely kind of assumed spies caught in hostile countries would either 'mysteriously disappear' or get quietly traded back.

Anyway, it's obvious she wasn't a spy -- she's just being used as propaganda against the EVIL WESTERN PIGS or whatever.
