I think they just don't have a clue about how technology works.

Unless it applies to them in which case they know to make themselves exempt.

Why do people vote in council elections with their national thinking hat on? I've spoken to a number of people in the past week who all decided to vote for a tory councillor because they dislike Corbyn and his crew and have no faith in the labour party. Surely at local level you are purely supposed to look at the individuals and what they stand for and want to do. National politics shouldn't really come into it for me.

It's pretty tough to get information on local councillors though.

What's the point in releasing hacked files a day before the french vote. If someone wants to influence the election and prevent some voting for macron then the general public won't have time to read and digest them especially as the media are not allowed to print them in France this close to election.

Looks like Macron has won with 65.5% of the vote. Not even close (she was hopeful for at least 40), and a good day for the pollsters.

Great news to see an increase in his majority. It is not enough that the far right lose, they must be crushed. Of course, that's not to say that even 34.5% is not worrying.

How is the French election so efficient. What do they use to count their votes?

French vote

Abstention: 25.8% (possibly the highest rate in a presidential run-off in decades)

Blank votes 8.4%

Not valid 3.6%

Don't understand why they have an abstain option. Surely choosing not to cast your vote is abstaining?

I'd quite like an abstain option. It shows you bothered to turn up but that you were disgusted by the choices.

This, there is a difference between being a thick gooseberry fool who can't be arsed and someone that doesnt want to vote for any of the available gooseberry fool stains

Anyone choosing the abstain option when one of the candidates is an actual fascist is too stupid to be allowed to vote.

I have to agree. I know someone who spoiled their referendum ballot paper which annoyed me greatly.

In that case, or with Trump, I'd agree.

I'd like the option to be able to express my disgust at the quality of the candidates though. I'd probably never use it but it'd be better than people not turning up or just spoiling ballot papers.

It's not stupid if they genuinely dislike both candidates as much as the other.

We're a bit different though, because you can always vote for somebody. Even increasing the vote share of a party is better than nothing.
