Shhh, I was pretending that I didn't know why they were the scary bad guys.

Karl, did you know that even dentists don't know how old they are and that the refugees seem to have phones? The bastards!

I explained that the reason I referenced a Syrian was because we have a missing Syrian asylum seeker at work.

Apologies mate, I was a little drunk when I wrote that and didn't mean to insinuate that you were one of the idiots demanding dental checks on immigrants. I worded it poorly and didn't mean it to be aimed at you.

No worries mate.

That is disgusting. I bet there are plans to build a luxury apartment complex on the sight once the dusts settles.

I'd imagine it's pretty nailed on that luxury apartments will be built on the site.

The whole thing is disgusting.

Would be surprised if this didn't happen.

If true there goes another May promise...

Labour is extremely complicit in gentrification when it comes to London as well. Hell, everyone from the Mayor down is Labour! It honestly makes absolutely no difference who is in charge of the local council. I'm yet to see any truly new affordable housing go up that isn't a token gesture in planning agreements. It's all signed off by everyone involved. Very occasionally big business loses (McDonald's wanted a big double stacked drive-in restaurant in Wallington of all places and the residents said no, and the Lib Dems binned the proposal) but it's very rare. Council's across the city don't want to say no to the regeneration of roads, parks and so on...the only trade off in all of that is the need to insert a bit of "affordable housing" that ticks a box. The regeneration that business offer is vast, and it means it's not coming from stripped-back council coffers or higher government. Look what's happening in Purley on the very edge of London at the moment, another one under the jurisdiction of a Labour run council. They wanted an expensive luxury tower block with roof garden built that doesn't fit in with the local decor, and it's the local Tory councillor that's fighting on the resident's behalf to block it. I think it's now gone to government to decide. And how much was destined for affordable housing? Just 18%.

To see London get a wealth of improvements and cleaned up is obviously wonderful (you only have to open the pages of the Evening Standard to see what lavish development is planned next) but beneath the surface it's all at the expense of somebody. And that is the poor. In the end what you will have is a very unsavoury situation where all the poor in this country are clumped together. It'll be like America. Many parts of the UK is already like that - stepping back in time 30+ years. The infrastructure is so antiquated it's ridiculous.

Tottenham and Croydon will be next on the gentrification list. It's already in progress. I mean don't get me wrong, there is still an edge to these places, but look at the buildings that are and have gone up. The riots of 2011 basically began the process of culling the poor from these areas.

On one hand it is harsh to declare them homeless if they won't move out of the area, however, if they can't be homes there the people do need to understand they can magic flats and things and if that's all there is sort of tough.

There needs to be proper social housing made again, the whole some as affordable it bullshit as it doesn't help the really poor as they can't afford that etc.

Really they should be moved temporarily and new homes be made on this site that are social housing for them and others in similar situations.

Building affordable only helps fire time buyers etc. They really unfortunate can't even afford that so proper social projects need to be done again to help with that, as right now it is private rental and nothing much else for them.

Affordable Housing and Help To Buy schemes only help to buy Landlords extra homes.

There's no way they're going to build council flats on that prime real estate.

Yeah that's not true, both schemes are first time only I believe and certainly not allow for second, third, etc buildings.

However they don't help the really poor etc. It helps the comfortable people so they can buy, but anyone below that can't afford them as the max value is too high. Most will only be able to rent and that's pricpvate rental which is astronomical too, so we end up paying their rent in benefits to private land lords.

If you already own a property the you're ineligible for the Help to Buy scheme. It's entirely for people who do not own a home. You also can't get a mortgage that allows letting using Help to Buy.

I've no idea where people get this misconception from, that Safeguard has been in place from Day 1.

BBC News wrote:People told to stop taking 'selfies' at Grenfell site

The Metro is reporting that a resident near the Grenfell Tower block has had to ask people to stop taking selfies at the scene where 58 people died or are presumed dead.

Lorraine Warrington, who lives on the nearby Silchester estate, told the Metro: "This is not the time or place to take selfies – in front of a tower block where my friends passed away."

She said: "I understand people have come to pay their respects, even if they didn’t know anyone we all feel this could happen anywhere.

"But there are some people who just keep taking photographs and filming all the time like tourists, it’s disrespectful."

Some people are just SO ignorant.

People are such dicks, they will be there literally to say they have not to pay respects, the sooner this selfie gooseberry fool passes the better!

The wife keep wanting to do them and it's retarded.

As if she'll still be Pm in two years.

I agree with Portillo - she'll be lucky to make the Conference in October.

Agreed, she's unlikely to make the end of the summer. The only possibility for her hanging on is that the other top Tories think the job is poison at the moment and so let her stay to cop the flack.
