I am curious as to how many vacant properties Kensington has in it possession. No councils have a zero available, they will have some that need renovating, some that are soon to be vacant as well as actual abandoned properties. If Kensington doesn't have enough then the surrounding areas will. There is no need to send them to strawberry floating Preston. The Government / London councils just need to organise fixing up those properties.

Rightmove suggests there are just under 7000 flats/apartments available at the moment to rent in the Kensington area.

They are expensive of course, but there are plenty available.

They should ask for landlords to volunteer and offer up these places and receive the housing benefit rate of whoever fills them in return until a proper solution is found or they finally find proper tennants. The properties could still be viewed and rented out, which might mean people end up getting shuffled around but they might prefer that to being homeless.

He'll be fully focused on starting Brexit talks, then.

This is a bad solution. You can't rehouse people into a situation with absolutely no security at all, constantly worrying they might be kicked out and need to move again tomorrow, and then hold the threat of homelessness over their heads as a justification for herding them about like cattle.

These people need local, permanent accommodation.

Very true and I agree. Its by no means a perfect solution. But in the short term would it not better then nothing? I would expect in such a situation that it would work in at least monthly rolling contracts (with notice etc.) so that all involved would have some security. A landlord offering the property up to help would have to agree that should the property being rented out it happens after the current contract.

I've got a theory he'll tank the Brexit negotiations (either purposefully or due to incompetence) under the banner of "no deal better than a bad deal" and completely unreasonable EU demands, and then be installed as leader as "the man who stood up to the EU!!!"

The man who couldn't beat Cameron in the leadership election will be installed as leader. Yeah, this'll end well. :slol:

Irrelevant, I'm afraid. With a Tory, the defining characteristic -and, indeed, the only really pertinent one- is that they are a Tory.

It's fine. They'll vote exactly as we tell them to. Especially in the first three bills of the new parliament - banning abortions, gays and schools from teaching new age nonsense like evolution.

You don't understand the DUP's attitude to negotiation. More specifically, you don''t understand that the DUP do not have a concept of negotiation.

Example:
Conservative: "Well, how about we take a break from all this negotiation and order a pizza. Fungi all right with you?'
DUP: "I want pepperoni."
COnservative: "How about we go one half fungi and one half pepperoni?"
DUP "I. Want. strawberry floating. Pepperoni!"

On a lighter note - a close friend (and fiancée of one of my best friends) has told me she is seriously weighing up whether we can remain friends because I'm a Tory.

Meh, I have an uncle whose a Tory who I quite like. He was just raised to in the old-style of 'know your place' and 'respect your betters'; which means he's very polite and friendly but unfortunately somewhat of a ragged trousered philanthropist and will believe anything said in a posh accent. He's quite elderly now and despite services for him regularly being cut he he still supports the Conservatives no matter what. Unfortunately in NI no Conservative has a hope of getting elected so he can't self-harm in that way. I prefer him infinitely to some more left wing people I know who get pissed whenever I question their lord and saviour Corbyn.

I am happy to be friends with Tories but I probably couldn't date one. Unlucky Denster. ;)
