What was added to the discussion by reciting the joke, as opposed to simply stating that it was grossly antisemitic?

Yeah I'd agree with that, RotS. Making the noise with your mouth isn't intrinsically offensive, it's the context to which it's applied.

She didn't need to do the whole joke though, I think we'd have got the gist from the first line.

The Labour party must think Andrew Neil is a Nazi or some gooseberry fool.

He seems alright to me. He just makes Freudian slips sometimes about breakfast meaning breakfast. Seems like an alright dude apart from that.

Where's the private eye picture when you need it

Jeremy Corbyn is on Gogglebox tonight at 9pm, should you wish to know what he thinks of this week's TV.

Guardian wrote:Gavin Williamson packs Instagram feed with Partridge-esque pictures

Users poke fun at new defence secretary over account that eschews glamorous pictures for Land Rovers, constituency shots and his pet tarantula, Cronos

In the popular consciousness, the photo-sharing site Instagram is sometimes seen as the place to flaunt your glamorous lifestyle. Not if you are Gavin Williamson.

The new defence secretary has a decidedly more prosaic approach to the app, often featuring animals, vehicles, constituency shots and a way with captions that veers decidedly towards the voice of Alan Partridge, the fictional broadcaster created by Steve Coogan.

“Very pleased with my new garden incinerator only £14.99 from #aldi, cracking good value,” reads the caption of one photo, showing said incinerator.

“Question is could we make use of one in the whips office?”

“So instead of a politician talking bull here is a politician meeting one,” says another showing the MP meeting a farmer and his Hereford bull.

Perhaps the most Partridge-esque moment comes with a photo of Williamson’s 1981 Land Rover Defender: “In many ways when I look at my #landrover I think it epitomises everything that is so fantastic about #greatbritain a go anywhere do anything attitude. Let’s never forget how amazing this country is, never letting anything hold us back.”

As some pointed out on Twitter as news of the Instagram feed spread, Land Rover has been owned since 2008 by India’s Tata Motors. Another Twitter user helpfully pointed out that the DVLA website showed the vehicle’s tax had run out.

Cronos, his pet tarantula, makes several appearances in photos, including one on the chief whip’s red box. “Just finished packing everything I need for #conservativepartyconference,” goes the caption. “A Chief Whip always needs his #tarantula, you never know what types of conversations you may need to have.”

"Great to be with the team at Oldbury Boughton who are world leaders in manufacturing heavy chassis and hook loaders. #britishmanufacturing"

BBC News wrote:Tory MP Charlie Elphicke has been suspended by the party after "serious allegations" referred to the police, the Conservative Party has said.

Mr Elphicke, a former Conservative Party whip, has been the MP for Dover since 2010.

The Independent wrote:Clive Lewis has been accused of groping woman at Labour's 2017 conference

Labour is investigating an official complaint that a prominent MP groped a woman at the party’s annual conference just weeks ago, The Independent can reveal.

The party member claimed the incident occurred in a room full of people when she met ex-frontbencher Clive Lewis MP for the first time.

She claims that when she greeted Mr Lewis, who has been talked of as a potential future leader, they hugged and he then gave her backside “a big squeeze”.

The alleged groping, which the MP denies, occurred at the same event that Mr Lewis was recorded using the phrase “get on your knees bitch”, something he has since apologised for.

More like Clive Lewdis.

Just watched a BBC interview with a labour party member who has accused a politician of inappropriate behaviour.

The comment section was toxic as strawberry float. What is it about the Beeb that attracts people like this?

She's just quoting her own book, so the second joke was likely to be the same as on there. It's not much better....

Absolutely nothing wrong with Harmon talking about that joke the way she did. The outrage should be aimed at the magazine for using that joke, not at Harmon for calling them out on it.

Are people absolutely strawberry floating stupid when it comes to understanding context?

Pretty much. You'd think that with so many people being graduates these days more folk would know the different between saying something and quoting something. Maybe social media like Twitter has trained people to think that repeating something is equivalent to an endorsement.

There was little need to repeat the joke, plus she basically accused Andrew Neil of being the sort to find it funny.

As an experienced politician that is in a party that’s been accused of anti-semitism, Harman ought to know better.

To be fair those aren't as negative as I thought they'd be.

The front pages of the papers on Sunday won't make for happy reading for the Conservatives.

Tax payer funded rank hypocrisy. Do as I say, not as I do springs to mind. Again.

Fool me once (Ashley Madison) shame on you, fool me twice...I'm George Bush and I can't remember the bloody saying. Naturally, it also had to be the "extreme" stuff as well. But, you know, lecture everyone else on their porn habits. Maybe he should contact Keith Vaz and they can both sell washing machines together.
