Mao stared dumbly at the comic book, seemingly oblivious to the grisly specimens that leered at him from the jars lining the walls of his room.
Since reading about the legendary superhero who vanquished a maniacal Overlord, he hadn't been able to draw his eyes away from the comic's well-thumbed pages. Suddenly, as if coming to a momentous decision, he declared to the world in general, "As of today, it shall be my life's aim to become a HERO!" Now, coming from the son of the Dean of Nether Institute, Evil Academy - a.k.a the Overlord - this was serious! If Mao wanted to be a hero, it could mean only one thing: that he'd finally settled upon a way to defeat his old man!

When the school's resident goody-two-shoes, Raspberyl, learns about Mao's plan, she begins to worry, realising that if Mao succeeds, he'll take her place as the school's top delinquent! In an effort to avert this disaster, she sets about trying to talk him out of it, but just as she's getting started, a hero named Almaz wanders by and Mao - scarcely able to believe his luck - swiftly steals the hapless hero's title!

Now a "hero", Mao believes he's one step closer to becoming Overlord, but...

...will he really be able to defeat his own father?

...or will Raspberyl convince him not to!?

...and what will become of poor Almaz!?

Find out in DISGAEA® 3: Absence of Justice!

It is a great little game though for sure.

:D :D :D

I could import this right now (I nearly bought it last September when in Florida), but I may wait and see does the European version have Trophies or anything else new.

That being said, it should really be a PSN release. In fact....

Jiggles is right, this game should be a PSN release with multiplayer options.

I've emailed NIS. Let's see what they think.

Also, I move that you make this the official Disgaea thread. The fanbase is too small to float a thread for one game, but for all of them, we're sorted.

After playing Disgaea on the PSP, I don't think I'll ever go back to playing Disgaea on the PS2 or the PS3. The handheld suits it far better. I know if I buy the PS3 version, I'll stop playing due to the lack of sleep function and the effort of having to turn on a console for a game such as this.

I'd buy at a low price, but even then, I wouldn't do the game justice, I'm not a fan of grinding on the television, or a fan of grinding at all, and the sleep function really eradicates the feeling of grinding.

That's why I think it should be on PSN. Having the game always there on the hard drive to jump in and out of quickly is the closest you'll get to the sleep function on PS3.

Right, strawberry float it. It's the official Disgaea thread.

Prinny is out in the US next month. And look at the hawtness that's being offered as the special edition:

$70, and only 1000 being made.

That being said, the site selling them (Rosenqueen, nicely), offers all the components separately for around the same price. They offer international shipping, but I'm not sure how much it costs.

A bit of digging will also unearth a whole heap of stupidly awesome Disgaea merchandise from the site, such as:

There's plenty more of this stuff at the site. It's not all Prinny stuff, either. I just love the guys.

I got Disgaea on the PSP a few months ago and really wanted to like it. I spent a few hours on it, read up on it, got the issue of Edge with the Time Extend article about it and then.....the fear set in.

Not 'Dead Space' fear but 'Christ, there's just too much to do!' fear.

I think it was brought on by the increased amount of options that were opened up to me the further I got in. Creating new soldiers, levels in items (wtf?), endings that happen part of the way through the game, and don't even get me started on that geo system thing.

A total shame though, I actually really enjoyed what I played of it (loved the characters too) but I think it was the Edge article that eventually put me off playing it any more.

They talked about all the things that people discovered whilst playing it, all the different ways of doing things, item upgrades etc. My brain just thought "Baws to that, too much like hard work" and I never played it again.

Is it that involved? Have I just over-complicated things in my head and actually it's really easy to understand? Or should I just admire it from afar and wonder at what could have been?

Come on, sell it to me! :)

(Just to let you know, I moved onto an RTS that's a bit more 'friendly', Jeanne D'arc. Brilliant.)

You'd have thought I would have posted more in this thread.

Also NBK, there's lots to do in the game, just don't read any other article and just uncover things for yourself. You would have soon got to grips with everything if you hadn't read the Edge article, and just realised everything comes to you in a timely manner because you discover things for yourself rather than you being forced to do something new each time you unlock something.

It's not over complicated, you did over complicate things.

There's lots to do, but not in the way you may expect, like there's lots of ways to exploit the battle system, but you aren't forced to do it. It's your choice. There's a lot of choices, but they aren't overwhelming choices. The fun comes from you doing stuff your way and exploring the stuff in the game.

If you can play Jeanne D'arc, then you can play Disgaea. Disgaea just has a lot of side stuff for you to invest in if you want to.

The DS is just the PS2/PSP game in different clothing, right? What're the two screens used for? If one's a map when in battles, I might have to look into it. If anything annoys me about the game it's not being able to see people in trenches.

I'm pretty sure the DS one is the PS2/PSP one remade. The second screen is indeed a grid based map, I don't know what I'd do without it.

Cool, thanks very much. I just may give it another try. I know what you mean about grinding on a hand held too. I spent over 95 hours on FFT:A and it hardly bothered me at all.

I really want to get this. Have seen it in my local Indy but wasn't going to pay £50 for it. I don't know why I want it though as I never got on with the first game on PS2.

I do see it as a game I can get stuck in to that'll last me for ages. That'll help me considerably with this years gaming budget. The problem I have is that I might not get in to it and just end up trading it in after a few weeks. I should like it though as I much prefer turn based games to realtime.

It's a dilema.

Picked up Disgaea 3 this morning from Asda on my way to work. Looking forward to cracking on with this later in the week. I will no doubt sink another 100 hours into Disgaea

Just got a reply this minute.

Hi Gavin,

Thank you very much for your interest in our titles. We’re all glad that you like the games.

In regards to your question, you are a quite sharp person. PSN is definitely the way to go for the future and we would love to do so. It’s just that there are still contracts and regulations that doesn’t allow us to release anything we want at anytime. As we figure out these political garbage we will begin to have more games and downloadable contents on PSN.

Please look forward. :)

Best Regards,
