I'll have to check but I think I've hired a healer... but how do they heal? . Is it an automatic thing or do I have to select it from the menu?
When you select the character's menu on your turn, go to Special -- that's the submenu where their spells and special abilities live. From there, Heal is the basic healing spell. You'll need to be relatively close to the unit you want to heal at first, but after a few healings it will level up and its range will increase.

Ah! Thanks, man, I haven't tried out Special yet. I think I need to start taking a closer look at the menus and stats!
Started the demo last night. I don't think I was really in the mood for it; I just wanted to get cracking with some battles, but I realise it has to take you through the basics first. Reckon it's one I'll pick up at some point, but I've got too many other games demanding my immediate attention.
Progressing slower than I would have liked, due to work, and E3, and it generally being too hot to move. Up to Chapter 10. It's interesting, the game feels like it's willing the player to cheat at times. It definitely has more content than something like Fire Emblem, but I think I prefer how traditional and straightforward Fire Emblem is. Even just upgrading spells has multiple parts. It can be challenging too, if you don't break the game for yourself, but even if you do, the GeoPanels keep things interesting. Some of the GeoPanel stages have been doozies. I'm enjoying the story, there are some amusing parts (Usalia in the Curry pot), but it's not really anything special. At this stage I'd definitely pick up Disgaea 6, whenever that happens.
