There is on steam, because you can just instantly refund it if you see it doesn't work properly.

Unless of course you're willing to test out different 'fixes' and spend a few hours experimenting with the in game graphics settings and graphics driver control panel options that will likely only alleviate said issues to an extent. I really thought Arkane would deliver a spot on PC port like the original. Hell knows why this came out in such a poor state. Maybe it's the Void engine being based off of id tech 5, but I have no idea tbh.
Is it really that bad? I was going to buy it today. Dishonored 1 was flawless on PC, can't believe D2 is a technical shambles

Yea it is weird, that said Dishonored 1 was using UE3. The good thing I can say is Dishonored 2 does feel like the original in terms of gameplay, so it feels like you're stepping straight back into the same world. But I'd wait until the patch is out really. That's what I'm doing at the moment despite pre-purchasing it. I know it'll be great game one they fix the performance issues.

I got the PC version and I haven't noticed a single technical issue. What problems are people having?

Generally poor and inconsistent performance, with altering graphical settings having little or no effect. The inconsistency of the drops in framerate is one of the most annoying things - it can be smooth as anything at 60fps in a busy city scene, but then drop alarmingly when just looking around a small room.
It's not been too bad for me compared to what others have described, but there's definitely a problem somewhere.
Brerlappin wrote:Well I bought it, and its a strawberry floating shambles. Constant FPS drops outside, from 60 down to 30 or lower, for no reason whatsoever. Will wait for a patch but that is strawberry floating ridiculous and smacks of a rushed release

I just really wanted to play this game. I got it cheap from a key site anyway so I don't mind waiting for a patch

The game though, this thing is truly special. If you weren't a fan of the original I don't think there is going to be anything here to win you over, but for me this is really something else. The blend of player agency, satisfying stealth, and the beautiful presentation and world building is just ticking all my boxes. I love the wealth of options on how to tackle situations, and not simply in a very pre-defined approach as seen in the recent Deus Ex games where every challenge seems to have an obvious hack/stealth/combat approach laid out for the player. This is much more a case of giving the players some tools, setting up rules for how the world responds to them and then setting you loose on a variety of objectives, improvisation and experimentation is very much the key and has been very enjoyable thus far.
Sadly the plot and delivery of the main story looks like it's going to be a bit of a let down, as it was in the first game. It's a shame they haven't learned a lesson there. That's one of the reasons why despite everything the Dishonored series has going for it as a modern "immersive sim" it's still falling below the bar set by the likes of Thief, System Shock, and Deus Ex. Each of those earlier games set up the key elements of the genre (world and systems simulation, player agency, a great combination of ways to interact with the world and an encouragement to explore and experiment with how those could be used) but also married them to engaging and compelling (if slightly ridiculous and hammy in the case of Deus Ex) stories and characters. Thief in particular being a masterclass in how it delivers it's narrative through cut scenes, environmental storytelling, player interactions etc.
Either way unless it cocks it up massively as I move onward then I have to say it's pretty much locked on as my game of the year right now.
