Hopefully the mouse movement is no longer dependent on FPS, that was a bit of a killer. I actually moved to playing with my 360 controller as that felt better - although I'm generally mouse all the way on first person games.

I'm running on a 970 here as well and it hasn't been too bad thus far, everything generally sticking between 50-60fps, although I was using some older nvidia drivers which didn't have memory issues so that may have been helping. How bad has it been for you?

What graphics settings do you use? I've experimented with auto to high-medium and even very low, as well as turning of TXAA and using FXAA instead all the while forcing 60 fps limit through Nvidia inspector. I get similar frame rates across the board more or less which seems strange.Usually between 40 and 55 ish outside then going to 60 occasionally. I found it was a better experience for me to just limit framerate to 30fps. I've not really tried my 360 controller, might give it a go. I think another performance patch is due out next week, though nothing official has been said.

In other news Arkane Studios will release a free update for Dishonored 2 next month.

While more details are promised at a later date, the developer said the free update will include a New Game + mode and new Custom Difficulty settings.

A release date for the content wasn’t provided, but it will arrive sometime in December.

I'm on a mix of medium - high settings, sticking with TXAA as FXAA gave horrible white dot artifacts on edges. But in all honesty playing with the settings seemed to have very little impact on performance for me. Oh and I've been using RivaTuner Statistics Server to limit framerate to 60fps.

Playing with the controller can be tricky, but it feels better than the janky mouse at present.

 I'll have to check that one out then.

I've been playing with my controller and it's been ok, tho I still crave for a consistent 60fps experience (hopefully the performance patch arrives soon). The environments are so much more dense with more places to explore. I really love the kill animations too which are brutal and satisfying ha. I'm pretty much a ghost/high chaos player. Never be seen but slaughter each and every enemy like a ninja. Sometimes I knock them out from above as that has a good animation too, but I don't really like choking them out as it takes too long and doesn't feel nearly as enjoyable to do, so I just stab them through the back instead :D

I can never make it through his videos, just something about the guy.

What's his main problems with the game, is he just picking out the performance issues or does he have wider criticisms?

The performance issues were a big part of it but also the bugs, characters, locations and the consequences to how targets are dealt with.

All the impressions I've heard have said the story and characters are pretty bad. Giant Bomb included.

So if you don't enjoy the game play I can't imagine you'd be very favourable towards the game, especially on PC.

Forgot that calling a game average is scathing in the world of video games  He gave it a 5.

The intro is so rushed I couldn't quite believe it. It's literally ceremony, surprise, dethroned. Boom. However, I disagree with almost everything else Sterling says. Emily's powers are not at all boring for a start, but the fact he covers the design and world in little more than a half - sentence is criminal. The world is Dishonored, and Karnaca is, for me, this generation's Rapture. It's stunning.

I haven't come across any glitches so fast, but that's by the by. I'm sure he reviewed it as best he could, but the I don't recognise the game he describes at all.

For a game that's getting 10's and game of the year nominations a 5 is pretty scathing. 5 is the median on a 10 point scale but is very rarely used as a score for an average videogame.

*edit* Good to hear the game is good. Dishonoured was one of my favourite games of last gen.

Redownloaded the first game from Steam as I'd put about 4 hours already into it rather than start again on PS4, load the game and sitting in the menu and notice screen goes weird and everything locks up. Couldn't load Windows after that kept crashing and restarting so I've now had to completely wipe my laptop and start from scratch.

Yeah I think I'll make a start at some point on the PS4 version then :fp:

If anyone's finished mission 4 , can you tell me if
destroying clockwork soldiers counts as a kill?

I've just got there and would like to know what my options are. Don't think I've killed anyone yet (no half-way stats were given when I got to the mansion).

Thanks.

Just be careful though, if you hack them or bust up their friend/foe part then they'll attack your enemies, and I believe that will count as a kill against you

If you pause the game you can go into the stats menu and it will give you a running total of your kills and other info for the current mission, as well as letting you look at your overall stats as well. I've used that to double check whether I'm going to be penalised for certain things previously, if something results in a kill that I'd rather avoid then I tend to go for a reload.

I ended up somehow getting a kill against me on mission 2, but I'm absolutely positive I didn't kill anyone. The only thing I can think is that for some reason the injured doctor I spoke to that ended up getting killed by the Jekyll/Hyde character ended up counting against me because you can somehow progress without talking to him

Ended up just carrying on because I really didn't want to play the whole level over again.

Yeah I've somehow picked up two kills on my play through even though I've been going for an exclusively non-lethal approach. The doctor seemed like a possible candidate, but there's always the chance that an unconscious body was attacked by rats or flies (do they do this, or is it just corpses?), or possibly one of my sleeping guards was placed more precariously than I thought and fell to their doom? Either way I'm not an achievement whore so don't particularly care, but if the stats could show a cause of death it would be helpful!

New patch out for this on PC today apparently - not seen any reports on what it achieves yet though.

I've heard talk of a performance patch so it might be that.

There was an initial patch, but the second PC patch is out today I think.

Just finished The Clockwork Mansion and I'm seeing a few flaws. One bit that annoyed me was the bit behind the station, just before you head to the mansion. You head out the back as there's a Rune there, and a lady asking for your help. You approach her and 5 Howlers attack immediately. I cannot see any way to do this non-lethally unless you just run away. I tried not alerting her, but she triggers as soon as you enter the yard.

I ended up tricking them all into a Wall of Light.

For that part I went over the fence to the right of the station and behind the tree to a hidden alleyway. You can disarm a few traps and sneak up behind two howlers to knock them out. From there you can pull up onto a wood cart above and domino the other three then hit them with a tranquilizer dart. Got the rune and totally non lethal.

It's a trap set up by the Howlers, they do a similar thing in a later mission as well - pretend to be in distress to lure the player into an enclosed area.

I managed to take out 3 or 4 silently - there's two in a sort of alcove that you can choke without being seen, and one behind some crates that you can sleep dart and get away with it. But eventually someone spotted that something was up so I had to improvise!

You could probably distract them with a smashed glass and it may trigger the AI into a patrolling state at which point it may be easier to KO everyone.

There's a bigger annoyance that I spotted later, I think it's mission 6:
Two Overseers are reading a list of crimes to a pair of citizens and eventually will execute them if you wait long enough. Obviously I wanted to save them so I sleep darted and choked the Overseers, but this triggers the spawning of two other Overseers out of thin air who then run in and attack you. I've scoured the area around here prior to triggering the "execution" event and these extra two Overseers definitely do not exist unless you attempt to intervene. Very annoying and enemy spawning definitely goes against the nature of this type of game
