My only point was that you are wrong to suggest that Disney were responsible for Star Wars and Marvel being popular/well received. They are both massive franchises that would have been popular with or without Disney.

You need to find something that was unheard of or ill thought of that Disney turned around.

Does Johnny Depp count? they turned him around by dressing him like a pirate. Although now he's out of favour again.

If anything they destroyed him, he was popular before the Pirates movies, now he’s an irritating turd.

He destroyed himself by beating up his wife and starring in shite Tim Burton film after shite Tim Burton film. :(

Exactly, all post Disney.

Disney. :x

For reference, Comcast is despised by most Americans who use the service (a number of them have no choice, what with the lack of competition in the broadband and cable/satellite sector).

From what I've read and been told, Disney are very interested in continuing the acquisition of Sky.

We're probably never going to see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in the MCU.

Exclusive: Comcast prepares all-cash bid to gate-crash Disney-Fox deal - sources

I'm not one for loving up one corporation over the other but, man, strawberry float Comcast for so very many reasons. Their getting in the way of Marvel properties returning to Marvel (and thus Marvel Studios being able to go big on X-Men, etc) would piss me off even more than their getting a foothold in UK/Europe by purchasing Sky.

Comcast stock is dropping since they want to buy Fox by putting themselves $60billion in debt.
They don't actually have the cash to do this, they want to borrow it. And they want to borrow it before they even know about any regulatory issues in the US, and then in the UK. So they could end up borrowing the money, getting into debt and suddenly government's say "Nope"

I know it's one faceless corporation Vs another but at least Disney with Lucas film and marvel have a track record for handing the properties over to talented people and letting them make things people want to pay money to see.

Comcast own NBC universal who do things like cancel Community and Hannibal so no thank you.

That’s roughly my thought. As evil as Disney are, they make some decent stuff. Everything I hear about Comcast make them sound shite.

If Comcast were to get Sky I fully expect the Contact Centres up in Livingston to be moved to India within two years.

Apparently Comcast is bigger than Disney, and they already own NBC and Universal Pictures.

Comcast are way bigger.
The only way in which Disney will be bigger than Comcast from this is in terms of the IPs they own, not their actual business reach. Even after Disney buys Fox they'd still be smaller than Comcast by a big margin.

That may not be as certain as you think as many companies are bringing call centres back to the UK from India as the wages in India are rising fast and UK customers prefer companies that have UK call centre staff.

Comcast will be looking for every opportunity to cut costs and increase profit and don't give a gooseberry fool about customer service/experience. That's their entire operating model in the USA. It works there because for a huge portion of their customers it's literally them or nothing, if they came over to the UK and suddenly had competition to deal with I really don't think they'd handle it very well. I'd fully expect them to figure that what works for the USA will work everywhere.

Agreed. Of the two I'd rather Disney took over.

Comcast is on the cusp of getting approval from the UK government to buy British broadcaster Sky for £22 billion ($31 billion). The approval will bring the American company a step closer to scooping up a valuable international asset that Disney is also competing for.

Matt Hancock, the government's culture and media secretary said on Monday that "the proposed merger does not raise concerns in relation to public interest considerations." But he noted that his full and final decision would come after further consultation with "interested parties."

Disney increases bid for Murdoch's Fox assets

Disney has increased its offer for 21st Century Fox to $71.3bn in cash and shares, up from an earlier $52bn offer.

The move values Fox at $38 a share, some $10 higher than Disney's first offer in December.

Disney is locked in a battle with US media conglomerate Comcast, which has offered $65bn in cash for Fox.

"The acquisition of 21st Century Fox will bring significant financial value to the shareholders of both companies," said Disney boss Robert Iger.

The improved offer came as 21st Century Fox board was set to decide whether to back Comcast's bid for assets that include Fox's film and television studios and international businesses.

Disney also wants to acquire those businesses. The two firms are also vying for ownership of Sky in the UK.

...and Fox has accepted it:
Fox Accepts $71 Billion Disney Bid, Dealing Blow to Comcast

21st Century Fox Inc. accepted a sweetened, $71.3 billion bid from Walt Disney Co. for its entertainment assets, outbidding Comcast Corp. in a battle for one of the media industry’s biggest prizes.

The $38-a-share price is about $10 a share higher than what Disney offered in December -- and $3 above Comcast’s bid from last week. The new agreement also offers more flexibility and other enhancements than the Comcast offer, Fox said on Wednesday.

Good and bad news.

Good news because Comcast are appalling.

Bad news because Disney are appalling.
