Yeah I'm caught out by this. I'd always assumed it was doing well given the shelf space it received, the number of figures that came out and it reaching essentially a third game with 3.0

It is a shock - if something as big as Disney Infinity can't succeed in the "toys-to-life" videogame market, I start to wonder what can.

Perhaps it's a case of the product(s) being too highly priced for the younger market they were targeting? Bar the recent Star Wars game, I don't think the actual gameplay was too hot. My nephews weren't as keen on it as they were on Skylanders (and they've gone off that now, too).

PC support for 3.0 was dropped a little while ago which pretty much killed my interest in continuing to collect figures as I didn't want to replay everything on consoles. Nonetheless, I'm surprised at this because I thought that the PC version just wasn't as lucrative as the console ones. The Star Wars 3.0 Play Sets are great, especially the Twilight of the Republic which feels just like the animated series, so it's a shame to see it disappear completely. I'm going to make a point of finishing off the play sets that I have, just in case the F2P Steam version gets removed.

On the bright, I hope this opens the door to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

So does this mean a return to the early 2000s where every disney film had an action/platformer tie-in which was mediocre at best and utter trash at worst?

I imagine their statement about "lack of growth" means they saturated their market and whatever figure that was wasn't high enough.

They were all gooseberry fool and a massive expensive waste of money. I kept telling my wife this but she kept buying them for my son. Stupid cow.

The gameplay was shockingly bad, skylanders is a much more fun and interesting game.

Can you use the Marvel 2.0 figures in Marvel's Battleground on 3.0? My nephew's Birthday this weekend and I was gonna grab Thor, Venom and 'Normal' Spiderman, but they're all 2.0? Will they work?

The next big step in the closure of Infinity happened yesterday as the PC, iOS and Android versions shut down. There is some good news as Disney is working on migrating 2.0 and 3.0 to Steam servers so that people can continue to play the game offline.

Sadly, it looks like there's nothing left for 1.0 except to RIP in peace. It seems that you can continue to play 1.0 offline if you already had it installed on your PC and linked your Disney account to it. Sadly, I didn't do the latter so I'll have to play through the content on the Wii U version :fp: Anyway, goodnight, sweet prince.

It is a shame, Dragon, as I know you had a lot of fun with the series.

It feels odd that even the mighty Disney, resplendent with copious well-known characters, couldn't make the toys-to-lfe videogame business work out. I think the toys were smart albeit a touch expensive, and personally the sculptings were a little too cartoon-ish for my tastes, but overall the quality of them was very good.

I think the problem was gameplay. My nephews picked up Infinity 1.0 and the game wasn't that much fun; not bad, just rather dull. The adventure games weren't interesting and the sandbox mode seemed a little complicated. They were disappointed with it and, compared to Skylanders, it didn't pack the same punch. The 2.0 and 3.0 updates apparantly upped the gameplay a bit, but by most accounts it still offered relatively little for the costs involved.

Even so, it still seems incredible that Infinity could fail with the Disney, Marvel and Star Wars franchises behind it. It should have been printing money!

I didn't expect much from Infinity which is why I skipped it until the free-to-play version hit Steam and I decided to give it a go. The next day, I grabbed the Twilight of the Republic playset and a Darth Vader figure to play the rest of that campaign as I enjoyed it so much. Slowly, but surely, I built up my collection until I went into overdrive following the sad news that the franchise was ending. I'll take a picture of all my figures when I decide where to display them and then organise them properly. I've run out of space between this and amiibo :slol:

It's a shame that Disney could't make this work. The popular theory behind this is that it made far too many figures which meant that it wasn't making as much money as it expected. As you said, it's amazing that Disney, Marvel and Star Wars weren't enough to sustain Infinity as each one of those is a big money-spinner. Infinity did open my eyes to how enjoyable toys-to-life games can be which led to me recently picking up Skylanders Supercharged for the Wii U...

I keep seeing the Marvel figures in Tesco and get tempted to pick up the second game and some figures. Sad that it went the way it has

I've got Disney Infinity 3.0 and thought it was a fun and even clever use of the IP, although with hindsight I think the cutesy interpretation of the characters and game world impacted its sales. An open-world(ish) Star Wars game should have performed a lot better. Now the game is being shut down Disney should set a good example for publishers closing shop so that games don't get lost to history and make all the characters available to everyone - even if it's a one off fee. - which I thought I read would be possible for PC users.

Cheers man, I'm glad you liked it.

I mean the Lego Dimensions game is appealing to me. All these great movie & stuff franchises been mashed together. But the bottom line is, I don't play with toys anymore so don't want to pay extra for play sets. In the old old days extra characters were unlockables, now you have to pay for the privilege.

This, Skylanders and Lego Dimensions are all pretty similar, you place your toy on a base and that toy then appears as your avatar on screen. Obviously there is a bit more to it than that, but that's how they generally work.
