About the game

Disney Infinity 2.0 allows gamers to use a range of physical figurines to enable digital versions of the characters to be controlled in a dedicated videogame. The physical figurines utilise NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to store gaming information within each character. The game can be expanded with new characters, additional adventures (via Play Set pieces) and character powers (via Power Disc pieces).

Version 2.0 is an enhancement of the original Disney Infinity game that launched during 2013. Initially the 2.0 version will be focused upon a partnership with Marvel's range of Super Hero characters. It has been announced that future additions will include Disney film characters and further Marvel characters.

Launch content

Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes launches as a Starter Pack containing an Infinity Base (the link between the physical characters and your gaming system), the 2.0 software on a disc, three Marvel figurines (Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow), a Play Set piece (based upon The Avengers) and two Power Discs.

Additionally, a separate Collectors Edition of the Starter Pack will be made available exclusively for PS4 and PS3 formats. This version contains the same content as the standard Starter Pack but also adds three additional Marvel figurines (Hulk, Captain America and Hawkeye), alongside a Marvel's Avengers Collectible Stand.

Image

Most retailers are undertaking a launch offer where the purchaser of either the Start Pack or the Collectors Edition will be able to choose one additional figure free of charge. There are three figures included in this offer: Hawkeye, Nick Fury and Iron Fist.

Figures - Starter Set

The Starter Set includes Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow figures. The Collectors Edition (see Launch for full details) inclides the same three figures plus Captain America, Hawkeye and Hulk. Hulk is exclusively available as part of the Collectors Edition for approximately one month from launch.

Image

Figures - Wave 1

These figures will all be available from launch except for Hulk who will initially be available exclusively in the Collectors Edition and then, approximately one month later, to all.

Figures - Wave 2

Disney has started to announce some of the figures that will be included in this wave; dates are to be confirmed. The Wave will include three villains:

Play sets

The Starter Set and the Collectors Edition each include the Avengers set. Two additional sets will be available from launch:

Image

Power Disc packaging and storage

Power Discs can be purchased in 'blind' packs of two; each pack contains two random Power Discs. An official disc Capsule and disc Portfolio will be available at launch.

Image

Figure and Base storage

Three official storage solutions will be available at launch. The Armour Bag allows approximately eighteen figures to be stored in separate adjustable compartments. The Tech Zone and Play Zone each allow storage of the Base as well as figures.

Special editions

Collectors Edition (Starter Pack):

The Collectors Edition of the Starter Pack (see Launch Content) is only available for PS4 and PS3 formats. As well as including additional figures, the pack includes an exclusive 'Frost Monster' figure stand. The stand is quite large and allows seven figures to be placed in positions in around the Frost Monster. The Collectors Edition includes six 'hero' figures and it has been confirmed that the seventh spot will be for placing a new figure... Loki! Loki will be made available after the completion of Wave 1 figure releases.

Great stuff, suzz! I've also gone a bit mad with my order(s) for this stuff. I was a comic fan during the 90s and this Marvel edition of Infinity has really grabbed my attention.

I plan to ramp up the opening post to include pics of all the characters (Waves 1 and 2), the playsets, preview vids, character box openings and more. I can't complete this today but I hope to during tomorrow. Infinity Marvel .

Does the limited Edition set come with a portal thingy? I've pre-ordered it, but have no clue.

I never bothered with the original, but the additional of Marvel makes me rather tempted by the PS4 version.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Star Wars turn up at some point as well.

EDIT - strawberry floating hell, £115 for the Special Edition? Is it a GAME exclusive?

Pedz... dude... you've placed an order for a £115 game and you're not sure what it includes? :-). No worries, though - the Collecttors Edition does include the Infinity base... and a really cool-looking Avengers-themed stand to display the figures:

The Collectors Edition is currently on sale at Amazon and game.co.uk. Game originally priced this edition at £135 (PS4) but have reduced this to £115 to match Amazon's price. This is roughly double the standard edition price (£57 on PS4 from Amazon) but does include three additional figures (including the Hulk as an exclusive for circa one month) and the stunning Avengers-themed stand.

Absolutely, Laga - I think this will arrive as infinity v3. Disney will first rake in the cash from the Marvel 2.0 edition and then launch the new Star Wars 3.0 edition; it'll be like a license to print money.

Hi, Infinity fans!

The opening post has been updated with figure pictures, play set info, videos and more. I aim to add details about the new non-Marvel figures shortly.

Are you planning to get into this game when it launches in September?

I think I'll wait to see if the Collectors Edition maybe drops in price a little bit first.

Cheers Jawa. I was told it was included, so thought I'd ask on here.

It's the Marvel license that has really drawn me towards this updated version of Infinity. There's so much potential. I'm hoping that we see some of the 'darker' characters from the Marvel Universe as well as the more well-known characters. I know that the characters and gameplay will be designed to suit a younger audience, but I'd still love to see, say, Ghost Rider and Morbius. I like the design of the first wave of characters and I hope the gameplay elements match up to the quality.

>>> Infinity newsflash: It's been confirmed that the Rocket Raccoon figure from Guardians can be used in the Avengers playset. It'll be like a comic cross-over!

So how does this work? Is there DLC with new play packs, or is everything on the 2.0 disk?

I quite like the idea, but the game itself looks like a poor man's Ratchet & Clank. Cities are deserted. Is the sandbox mode really some amazing, minecraft-level creative playground?

The figures look pretty cool, but are hugely overpriced and you're paying to unlock extra characters that are on the disk. Not sure I can buy into the whole idea (although my OCD collector side is tempted). Games like LEGO Marvel Superheroes have a huge range of characters to unlock. Imagine to had to buy the figures to unlock them all.

Tldr: I'm tempted to buy this, despite seeing its a huge ripoff!

Yoshimi, you've voiced some thoughts that I can associate with. I wasn't keen on Infinity or Skylanders... until I played them. My nephews had the games for the Wii and, all playing together, I found them to be great fun. The physicality of choosing a figure and placing it on the base before seeing the digital character appear on screen is quite a thrill.

The gameplay probably won't win awards - it's generally simple stuff but well-made and enjoyable to take part in. I only briefly dabbled with Infinity's Toy Box mode as it takes time to make cool environments. The new version has sped up the process by including options to assist with your building.

I'm not certain as to how the add-on content works; I assume that everything is on the disc and that the various figures / play set statues / power discs act as unlocks. In the future I guess there could be downloads made available if a range of new play sets or characters are created.

The real draw is the physicality of the figures (a feeling that is increasingly lost in this digital age), the collectable attractiveness of them, and the multi-player aspects. I'd suggest that folk may be a little disappointed if they bought a set solely for solo gameplay - but people who are attracted to the whole package should get a real kick out of it.

It *will* be expensive for fans of the game, though! I've decided to cancel some other pre-orders and even avoid Nintendo's amiibos so that I have some dough for the Infinity figures.

Hulk is up for pre-order on Amazon; he'll set you back £15.23 and arrives on 24 October. Hulk is available at launch only as part of the Collectors Edition on PlayStation formats (see opening post) so this will be the opportunity for other formats to experience the rage and the power of ol' Green himself.

The figures arrived at my work yesterday, they're excellent. Really nicely painted and feel good quality. I think Hulk and Thor are my favourite, but they all look brilliant. I would post some photo's... but I'd probably get fired if found out.

Going to be playing the Guardians and Spider-Man playsets next week, looking forward to them.

Whhhaaat?!? Adam, I'm massively jealous!

I'd thought that Hulk was initially only available as part of the Collector Edition Starter Pack. Have you got access to all of the initial wave of figures?

I'd be keen to hear what you think of the gameplay. I'm gradually canceling pre-orders of other games so that I can pick-up the Marvel kit - there is a lot of it arriving!

Haha :D Yea that's correct, but as I work within Disney Interactive we have access to everything. I'm tempted to buy a Hulk for my desk at work, he's so awesome.

I must be Disney Interactive's ideal customer... at the moment I have the game pre-ordered for Wii U *and* PS4.

(I wasn't sure wether to post a face-palm or a datass emoticon after that.)

Is it wrong to be thinking of not buying Destiny as I'd rather my money went on figures for this?

Not at all, suzz. Destiny and Hyrule Warriors have both been deleted from my pre-orders. Metro Redux is surviving so far... but it's not a certainty. Even Nintendo's amiibos have moved to my 'no' list.
