Do you crack your joints?

I was delighted recently to find a new way of cracking my fingers, which gives me 4 different ways of cracking them, along with regularly doing my neck, back and toes.

I know some people find it disgusting, others find it satisfying, and others are indifferent - which camp are you in?

If you partake, which joints do you crack?
If you don't, is it because you actively dislike it, or just…don’t?

And what's the etiquette of cracking your knuckles, neck, etc in public, ie. around colleagues and friends? Acceptable, or a big no-no?

I unintentionally crack my joints pretty regularly, just with normal movement. In particular, my knee and ankle joints crack just by getting up from a chair or from sudden movement. Not because of age, either - they've always done it!

Fingers, wrists, neck, back, toes, knees and my right elbow.

I try not to do it in public but as I work in a noisy office I can get away with it most of the time. I have to conciously remind myself not to do it when I'm in a meeting

My big toe cracks several times a day, though it's involuntary.

I do this all the time and I wish I didn't. It regularly gets to the point where I have to do it because it becomes so uncomfortable if I don't, as in I literally cannot move whatever it is properly without cracking it first.

My right elbow is a bad one as it's guaranteed to be loud every time. It also involves a very noticeable movement in order to crack it.

No I'm not a monster

Also I don't even know how to, I've never done it.

I don't crack my joints except by accident, but I don't see why anyone would care about 'overhearing' someone cracking their joints.

No. I don't think it's exactly a healthy thing for you to be constantly doing to your own body, but I don't have any evidence to prove either way.

I just wouldn't personally do it deliberately.

I crack each knuckle with my thumb then pull each finger outwards so they pop

Far too often.

Fingers, jaw, neck, back, knees and toes.

The only cracking I do is on my index fingers. It is immensely satisfying.

I'm sure I read something recently which debunked the idea that cracking joints was bad for your health?

My joints frequently crack without any encouragement, usually my back, neck and left hip, all of which sound horribly loud and somewhat worrying at times.

Yep it's a complete myth that it's linked to any health issues, most likely propagated by parents trying to stop their kids from doing it.

I think that's what started it for me - my fingers felt 'stiff' and kind of uncomfortable, and then they cracked and it felt a lot better. Replicate that for my neck and back and it kinda spiralled from there.

A couple of weeks ago my lower back was really stiff and sore, and I really had to try and crack it before it felt comfortable again. That seems to have subsided now, but yes I think continually doing it makes it more likely that you need to do it.

Only reason I mentioned the etiquette was because I've had colleagues in the past complain about it. There are worse things to do in public (nose picking, nail biting, wanking) but I guess it crosses a line for some and/or makes them shudder.

From most to least often:

Back
Knees
Neck
Fingers
Toes

I can never *not* crack my back or knees. The rest are situational.
