Shakira, the Latin Grammy-winning singer, is due in court in Barcelona on Monday on charges of defrauding the Spanish tax authorities of €14.5m (£12.7m).

The 46-year-old Colombian musician, who lives in Miami with her two children, could face up to eight years in jail and a €24m fine if found guilty.

The case is based on the assertion that in the years 2012 to 2014 Shakira spent more than six months as a Spanish resident, thus making her liable for tax, a claim she denies.

If she gets sent down what would be a suitable headline?

I was thinking that as well. She's been famous for a couple of decades but I can only think of 3 songs. And I couldn't think of a way of making Waka Waka fit for a tax fraud case.

If this is like when half the Barcelona squad were at it she'll get a fine and suspended sentence.

In Spanish courts, rich people get to just pay a load of money to get off any jail time so I'm sure she'll be fine.

My main memory of her is an absolutely awful live performance on some UK TV show many years ago. She sounded like a faulty dremel.

Spain are always hauling in rich footballers for tax reasons, they always get a suspended prison sentence and pay a fine.
