Do you frequent other communities, gaming or otherwise?

Fed up talking videogames? Why?

I'm just generally interested. I've been a member here since way back in the Gamesradar days, (was Magius and a bit of an uptight idiot, but I've chilled since then), and like many old school members I've seen a lot of folk come and go; from rabid Nintendo fanboys like Invincible, Rik and his "I must own every version of Xbox ever made", to Stormcaller . One thing that does remain, however, is a genuine sense of community that I, personally, have never found anywhere else on the interwebs. I come and go like everyone else, sometimes for months at a time, but on my return I always feel welcome - well except by AD7, but he hates everyone and we love him for it. ;).

Outside of of FaceBook this is the only community I personally engage with, (tried Eurogamer, several times in fact, but it's just horrid). Is GRcade the one place you regularly visit, or the only place?

Until relatively recently, my main haunts were various IRC servers, but everyone's moved on from them to Slack, Discord, and Telegram.

I joined Gamesradar in 2005-2006, but before then, I used to use TotalGames.net via CUBE Magazine. Stayed with them after they closed, through TGN2 and TGN3 until they closed for good about a year ago.

I joined ONM when it first opened in February 2006, but didn't start posting there until September, around about that time there was a mass moderator walkout, and the admins at ONM happened to ask on TGN3 if any of us would take their place. That's how I ended up in the ONM community, as a moderator anyway.

My main communities these days are speedrunner Twitch streams and their respective Discords. Mainly for N64 games. The Donkey Kong 64 crew are pretty nice people.

Dakka Dakka, The Grand Alliance (both wargaming forums) and ResetEra. I'm in a lot of Facebook Groups too but I find them inferior to forums and don't participate much in them.

Theoretically I'm on Era, but I can't really get into it. Too big in the general threads, and maybe a bit cliquey (though to be fair perfectly nice) in the community threads.

Oh yes, I remember Totalgames. Quite a busy place in its heyday if I remember correctly and a few unstable members to boot!

I neglected to mention I used to post on the now extinct CVG for a time, but after the makeover (once the printed edition ceased production) it was never quite the same there. Some right strawberry floating loons used to frequent the pages of CVG. Hilarious for the most part, but it used to make my head hurt. I remember one chap was having a meltdown because no one would agree with him that the [then] forthcoming 'The Conduit' for the Nintendo Wii would provide the equivalent of M&K fps accuracy with a WiiMote. He was not a happy bunny, punctuated by the fact that days before its release The Conduit got a bit of a kicking in the reviews for its clunky controls and general mediocrity.

Oh yeah, I forgot about CVG. That also had a continuation forum when it closed, like TGN and GR. I was on there for a while. Think it was called The Dark Side.

I've been on a few other forums over the years - Gamesradar, CVG, PC Gamer and Serebii spring to mind, as well as the forums for Star Wars: Galaxies & Battlefront and the like. Nowadays I keep it to just two - GRcade, the one true heir to the Gamesradar throne, and The Sonic Stadium, which I joined back in 2002, before even Gamesradar IIRC. I don't really have the time to invest in a lot of different forum communities any more, so I just keep with my oldest, favoritest two. I might venture onto the PC Gamer forums once in a looong while if I need technical help with my computer, mind, but it's years between visits usually.

I've been a member of yakyak.org (Llamasoft / Jeff Minter / Giles) since it launched in 2002. It's pretty quiet nowdays but has some lovely people there. I follow Jeff on Twitter and so I'm always up-to-date on sheep and curry developments.

I used to post on the Eurogamer forums but I became a bit cheesed off when they kept crow-barring political opinions into their gaming articles and so I closed down my account there.

That's about it, really. I have had accounts at other places at various times but no longer post on them. I have a ResetEra account but I am not tempted to post there with any frequency; I prefer the smaller community of GR.

GRcade or death!

I did dabble on Restera for a while, but that community has zero sense of humour and is far too US-centric to actually enjoy, so I closed my account there.

As someone pretty into the ol’ pocket monster cards, it’s a safe assumption that a lot of what I do is focused around that. Primarily this takes place on Facebook groups and group chats, but I also frequent a couple of subreddits (which I’m outgrowing - they aren’t competitive enough) and have one of my three twitter accounts for it too. My other twitters are primarily for irl politics and irl friends because, unsurprisingly, there is very little overlap between these three communities. There’s a couple of other forums I lurk for information (download festival is awesome for UK gig/tour dates) but nowhere I really contribute to that much.

GRcade is life, loveably infuriating as it is.

I used to be quite active on a Tolkien forum but that was a long time ago now. Now the only other place I really look at is a Bristol City forum, although I rarely post there.

It's just here now since SONM closed, though before the days of ONM/SONM, i was co-admin of a forum called Global Nintendo, and was heavily involved with an unofficial Gamecentral board.

I used to post on some of the GR offshoot forums - Wakinglimb, Poopgang. They're dead now though.

Largely inactive on the Blackburn Rovers fan forum, which is a bizarre mix of mutancy and intelligent opinion. My dad posts on there though so that fact keeps me from regularly posting. The Celtic equivalent is the same, but I think it's closed so I can't actually join.

Also dabble in some of the hardcore Rock Band community - the reddit and Scorehero forum for charting high score paths are interesting reads.

And Facebook groups for SNES and Game Boy collectors.
