PostDo you game on a phone?

With the terrible announcement of Command & Conquer mobile I'm eager to see if anyone actually still uses the phone to play games?

For a while mobile gaming seemed huge but now it's just sat in the background and making billions from people playing Candy Crush or whatever else is the time sink of the moment. I don't even own a phone because I'm old and grumpy and would rather spend the money on cake and coffee instead and I have a Kindle and multiple tablets which are kind of like a phone if you squint hard enough so I don't game on a phone but do you any more?

Candy Crush Soda Saga

Been playing it for years and am still hopelessly addicted, up to around level 1150 now.

It really depends.

I still play games like Drop7, Dandy Dungeon and 80 Days because they were created for the mobile market and weren't simply trying to put a console games on a small screen. They are also all excellent.

This new C&C game seems to be doing a cheap cash in on the name, which inevitably fails unless you have an already established fanbase (see PUBG and Minecraft mobile). Surely, this game is destined to be another Dungeon Keeper mobile.

Also, everyone should play 80 Days. It's one of the best narrative games of the last 5 years.

No. Tried a few games, but I don't like touch screen controls. My phone isn't great though so that doesn't help.

I'd like to add that another reason I don't mobile game is that if I've my phone on me then I'm either at work or out and about doing something else. ie not gaming.

Not really. I have Twilight Struggle, Pinball Arcade and Star realms and only use them when I am flying up the road.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

Every so often, love stuff like monument valley and such.
The touch version proper rollercoaster tycoon is very good too.

Pokemon Go is the only mobile game I've played for any meaningful length of time.

I don't game on my phone (it's an ancient 2G Nokia!) but I have dabbled with gaming on my tablet.

Great games: Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go, Monument Valley
Good-at-first games: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Bad games because touch controls and / or endless payments: Everything else

I tried a few Game Boy and Mega Drive games on my mate's phone the other day. They look terrific but are, for me, ruined by touch controls.

I play Pokemon Go more or less daily. The stuff they've added to the game since launch - raiding, research quests - has really helped flesh the game out and keep me playing. Legendary raids and community days are an experience.

Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go are great while they last. Occasionally I'll play Mario Run, but only the free version. It's fun for a quick blast.

I've tried some emulators but it always feels like you're compromising on how the games were meant to be enjoyed. A touch screen can't replace a pad.

Very rarely these days. There are some hits, Zoo Keeper, Game Dev Story (I’ve actully missed my train stop multiple times because of this) and Pokemon Go was exciting at the start. Feel in a Fallout mood so going to try Fallout Shelter (yes, I’m really late to the party).

For the most part, it truly is guff. I’m not sure what it’s going to take to ignite the mobile gaming market again.

I used to a lot back in the old days of Windows Phone and Xbox Live mobile games, but since those two died not so much. Still play the occasional game though.

Candy Crush Saga here, at level 1966. Never spent one penny on this game.

My phone gaming has dropped to virtually zero. It'll pick up if another Kingdom Rush game comes out.

I play Super Mario Run fairly frequently, picked it up for £5 and reckon it was well worth it.

Good for little timekillers/procrastination and for emulators, but not much else imo.

Zookeeper, tricky towers and lots of word games. I couldn't play anything that requires a decent amount of control though.

My kids play Roblox but to me it just looks really frustrating to try and control a character with a touchscreen.

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:
