I would say probably RPG, action/adventure and open world games.
But tbh I pretty much play anything if it interests me.

Platformers probably.

Easier to say what I don't like though, RTS games I can never get on with, well anything strategy really. I don't have a lot of foresight! :D

My favourite games are whatever EA release in November. Fifa and Cod. I call it the idiots genre.

My favourite genre for many years would have been point and click adventure games, but they're all but dead now (decent ones anyway).

Since then FPS have mostly been my genre of choice, branching out into first person adventure games and RPG's (like Fallout, Dishonoured etc.). I find first person gaming so much more immersive than third person and many of my favourite games are in that genre.

I'll happily play games across all genres though, wouldn't say there's really a genre I don't enjoy.

Looking at my post E3 wishlist, it seems that I'm almost now exclusively into third person adventure titles with mature themes and deep realistic chaeacters,

The Last or Us 2
Death Stranding
Ghost of Tsushima
Cyberpunk 2077
Resident Evil 2
RDR 2

I feel like I've become a bit of a pretentious snob about this. Games like Gears 5, Crackdown 3 and Devil May Cry 5 all come across as incredibly juvenile, something I maybe wouldn't have noticed a few years ago.

I feel like studios like Santa Monica, Naughty Dog and Kojima Productions have matured at the same rate as me.

That said, my eyes light up with glee when something amazing like Mario Odyssey comes out of Nintendo.

At the moment I think I would say Visual Novels with "strong" gameplay elements (Phoenix Wright, Danganronpa, Zero Escape).
I find them relaxing to play but incredibly compelling.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many games that fall in to this sub genre. The benefit is that it means I can keep up with the games that are released and even replay them (just bought the 3ds PW trilogy in the sale).

A new Ace Attorney was announced for Switch last year, as was a new Professor Leyton game.

Maybe had Nintendo not spent an hour focussing on a port of Smash Bros we might have seen it.

My favourite genre at the moment is Serious Story Driven Cinematic Epic. AKA the only kind of genre Sony bothers with. Y'know, if you forget all the other genres Sony have greenlit this gen and continue to do so.

I'm trying to keep pretty out of the loop on Cyberpunk 2077, but isn't it first-person?

Ah, thought he was listing examples of third-person games.

I thought exactly the same. It's not easy being a fan of the fringe stuff, but these forums do remind you that there are others who feel the same.

Sort of had a newfound appreciation and desire for RPGs recently. Liked them as a kid (mainly Pokémon), then I went through a phase of turning up my nose at them. I equated the option - and often necessity - of grinding to a lack of skill being required, and that in turn made me value those kinds of games less.

But over time I did take dips back into the genre and my perspective has shifted steadily to one I feel that is a little healthier. Enjoying games more in general now. Besides, there's often skill involved with resource/time management, and strategy to the battles.

Recently I enjoyed Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology a ton, and even more recently Persona 4 despite some issues I have with it (character/story-wise mainly). Hand pain from excessive and careless playing of action-intensive games was also a factor in this shift, and in fact that's partly why I decided to finally start Persona 4. Wanted to play another game but give my hands a bit of a rest.

At the moment my favourite genre would be split between motorcycle platforming games and ancient world wandering around climbing and murdering games.

Later this year I might add wild west shooty games to the list.

I love a good RPG, the first one (other than Pokemon) I completed was Breath of Fire 2 and I've been hooked since. Action and adventure games are good too, and I love platformers. Saying that, i do dip into other genres and games (Mario kart, smash etc) from time to time.

Racing and any kind of game that utilises music in weird and unique ways. I don't have much game time and both of those types of games lend themselves to short irregular gaming sessions

I used to really enjoy classic RTS games like Age of Empires, Command & Conquer and Empire Earth. Red Alert 2 is legit one of my all-time favourite games. I would play skirmish mode on all of those titles for hours on end just trying out different tactics and styles, such fun. I've not kept up with the genre in the last ~10 years or so, I imagine it's all gooseberry fool now though.

A combination of 3rd Person, RPG, Action and adventure. I feel like those games can be incredibly immersive compared to most other genres.
