Bought a new car last year.

went on 3 holidays last year.

going on atleast 1 this year.

saving for either a house or stupidily big car in the future.

none of the above could I do without saving.

I went on three holidays last year, but each time it was to my parents' villa in southern Spain, so free accommodation.

1 Free accommodation, 2 hotels.

Don't think I'll be doing that this year though, 1 farily expensive holiday mid year, then saving more so than ever actually, wanna see how quick I can get a certain amount together.

I have a massive student overdraft which I'm utterly unable to claw my way out of at the moment(he says, while waiting to go to New York at the end of the month) but I'm total gooseberry fool at saving money.

That said, there's a very good chance that I'll leave university at the age of around 26 with a doctorate and absolutely no debt thanks to living at home and worked for most of my time there and the thing of utter beauty that is the Scottish higher education system. Undergrad fees paid for me? Thank you very much.

I'm 22 and I've got a fair bit of wonga stashed away. Like Ob I'm trying to put away a grand every month while I'm earning a decent salary, just in case I ever want to buy a house or a new car or something.

I don't think I could cope if I spent all my money the whole time :dread: I could lose my job soon so I'm happy I have a safety net if I need it, especially with a mortgage!!

No.

If I was at all interested in owning my own home, perhaps I'd get a savings account. At 26 I've only just secured full time employment.

Still not fussed about mortgages or ISAs.

Apart from those who are saving for mortgage deposits and sex-change operations, that must leave a few of you who are quite well-off and with no real need to save all that money. You must be able to go out and buy the latest PlayStations and Xboxes (not Wii U) without questioning the decision.

Lucky boys.

You don't get rich by spending money!

But you have to speculate to accumulate. Please advise.

You can do that when you have 20k in the bank or some assets to throw about. Until then, don't fritter cash.

I have a decent chunk of savings. But I really don't know what I'm saving it for!

I don't earn that much, but living at home means I can put away a good amount every month.

Sadly not, I'm more focused on getting rid of my CC debt from years ago. gooseberry fool, I don't even have any pension funds yet either

My daughter has just under a grand already and thankfully she'll learn from my financial education from working in a bank for a few years (so at least all of my current debt is at 0%). Then I can focus on retirement saving once my debt has kindly strawberry floated off.

Doesn't strawberry floating help mind when your wife spends £1200 on professional family photos and sticks it on my CC

At the moment not much, I have some money invested in a share account around £10k

No actual savings, though, I've been living a little bit recklessly for the past six months or so, Rolex anyone?

I have savings, but it's not in what you conventional people refer to as "money", I keep my savings in the much more secure currency that is Halo merchandise.

I have about £20k.

Let's talk Bitcoin. (So I can leech GRcade's knowledge).

Does anyone buy Bitcoins? Mine Bitcoins? I like the idea of holding onto a few because they seem to gain value against the Pound and the Dollar. Not sure if they're actually something you invest in though.

No but I intend on starting soon. From next week I'll be working 20 hours a week. My plan is to have those wages paid into a new current account that I'm going to set up. Then, when my next lot of student loan/grant/bursary get paid into my student account (and so putting that account back into the black), I'll start using the new current account for my living expenses (should have a months worth of wages in by then).

What I'll then do is swap all DD over to the new account and then transfer everything in my student account (overdraft and all) into a cash ISA.

If I can continue to work 20 hours a week for the rest of my degree, my intention will be to not spend my loan/grant/bursary whatsoever and to only use my wages to live on. By the time I graduate, I should have around £8000 saved. Thank God for £30 a week rent. Hopefully there'll be no shock bill payments that'll strawberry float it up.

How does that sound? Any suggestions for a new current account? Decent online banking facilities and a decent Android app are major plus points. As is things like additional insurance, etc.
