No, never. Doing so would take me out of the world and environment I'm trying to fully immerse myself in. Would be the equivelent of being on the phone while watching a drama or movie.

If I need to look at my phone or do something else I'll pause the game.

If it's a slow-moving RPG I might listen to a podcast or some youtube video where the focus is predominantly on what the people are saying (Half in the Bag series).

As a kid, if I was playing on my GBA I'd have the TV on in the background and try to keep up with that at the same time but this wasn't too successful a lot of the time.

Some games I will want to give my total focus on. Same goes with some TV shows I'm following. But it's more out of respect than not being able to split my attention I guess. I want to experience them as best as possible.

I'll be playing co-op Marvel with Banjo while watching two football matches in a couple of hours. I can't focus on one thing for a long period of time, always need to be doing or listening to something else at the same time.

Some interesting responses so far! :)

I do agree that it depends on what the game is, some things are by their nature more suitable for multitasking than others.

As I've grown older I think I have done less multitasking with games than I would have done when I was young. Not necessarily through a reduction in my capacity to handle two things at once (kenneth.jpg) but more as others have said out of respect for the game.

I guess the fact that I just have less time to spend on games has had an impact as well - when I do carve out some time to play I want it to be a quality experience, not diluted by trying to do something else at the same time!

I'll often listen to music while gaming but other than that I like to focus on the game without distractions .
I will however pause a game to watch something on Netflix then return to the game for a while before watching another episode.

I normally listen to radio 6 when i'm at home on a console. If i'm on a handheld I'll always have the telly on the background.

I tend to multitask when playing Football Manager on my Switch, as it lends itself perfectly to being able to focus on 2 things at once. Has been awesome watching the football and scouting some of the players in the game 8-)

I'll sometimes browse on my phone between turns or during slow parts, or I'll half-watch something on TV/Netflix while playing. It depends how invested I am in either thing.

If it's important narrative stuff, I'll devote my full attention to it. If I'm just idly milling about in something like BOTW, I might have something on TV that's easily followed, like Friends, Brooklyn 99 or maybe some stand-up.
