Do you say thank you to the driver when getting off the bus?

Glad to see it's the norm. Over here it's really a mixed bag, but maybe a slight majority just get on and off without saying anything, even when they exit in the front which is right next to the driver.

Tbf, why say thank you? It's not like they are doing you a favour, they are being payed to do the job

P.S.

I say thanks too.

I always says "thanks" when tapping my card but I rarely say anything when getting off the bus as the exit is in the middle of the vehicle and it's always pretty busy.

Queuing, though, is another thing. I really dislike the fact that - at least in my experience of the London area - "queuing" now means "stand somewhere near the stop and try to push on first". That can be pretty frustrating.

We have it in hastings as well as app based tickets so you gist buy it on the phone ahead of time activate the ticket when you want it (can have tickets stored for up to 6 months before you activate them) and then show the ticket on the app to the driver.

I did when I got the bus before I could drive. Was only polite.

I used to but the bus drivers in London seem so standoffish that I rarely do.

Don’t be silly. Laga doesn’t drive, he has a chauffeur.

Don't say Thanks, just a quick peck on the cheek.

A few years ago I saw a sign in the driver's cab as I was getting on a bus in London. TfL had a campaign to encourage drivers to say hello and smile during rush hours to basically improve everyone's day. I noticed it to be honest, drivers in London were all pretty cool. I've seen an Arriva driver in Liverpool swear at someone for trying to pay with a tenner. It was a foreign student so he clearly thought he could get away with it. Usually they're okay though, because what's the point in rudeness in any direction?

Unless the bus driver drives like a tosser then I always say thanks.

Always say "cheers" as I'm departing, just seems the right thing to do.

Yeah I second that. If you get off a bus in Bristol and you don't say cheers drive, you should be banned for life.

On the rare occasions when I use a bus, I always thank the driver. Being nice costs nothing, and I know first hand how good it is to be thanked by a customer.

I don't use the bus these days (thank strawberry float) but if I did I'd probably say cheers on the way out.

No I just tell them to go strawberry float themselves as I drive past while they block the road as nobody gets on or off the bus and they're just sitting at a bus stop needlessly.

Of course I say thanks, I'm not a barbarian.

I got on a bus yesterday and the person in front of me gave the driver a Cornetto. He was well cuffed.
