Health obsessives are just a bit sad. I agree you should be considerate with smoking, but who'd want to be friends with someone really petty about it?

How petty are we talking? I don't consider 'please don't smoke near me' to be particularly petty.

I've had one cigarette in my life, while in Ibiza.

Hated it, so never doing it again, not that I really had a clue how to inhale the damn thing properly anyway.

People who smoke in your face are inconsiderate, I'd never do that. But the opportunities to do that are far less now the smoking ban is in operation so I dunno why people still bitch and moan. Get to know more considerate people.

Well, quite. Since the smoking ban, I can think of very few occasions where it's been a problem. There's been the occasional inadvertant face-full whilst walking down the street (lol context!) but even I think that's a bit much to get annoyed over.

Nope, but only because of the price. I really care very little for my actual health with the notable exception of not wanting to die.

These threads always turn nasty and you can guarantee that at some point a non-smoker will say "Smoking is for idiots. It slowly kills you. I also don't want to breathe your death cloud" and that at some point a smoker will say "Non-smokers are boring people. Smokers are interesting".

My thoughts:

I do not smoke. I never have done, and most probably never will do. I've always considered it a pointless exercise since popular and more qualified opinion than mine claims it to be a killer, and it would eat up my money like a mad thing.

I do drink however, and I'm certainly not a health freak- I'm not overweight by any strech but my diet cheifly consists of bacon and egg sandwiches, cheese and bean toasties, and Haribo. Why? I enjoy them and it harms no one else! I drink not only because of its taste (I enjoy beer, cider and real ale mostly), but also its physical effects. Both of which cagarettes lack to quite the same extent.

Finally- I don't like people smoking near me: I'd never really make a fuss (never really have cause to), but I think its common curtosy to go outside when lighting up around non-smokers. However, politically, I stand firmly against the ban on a point of principle.

Then again I'm probably a tool of government oppression who can't think for himself.

The one thing I never understand, is the people who won't touch Nicotine. Yet they smoke weed/do other drugs.

Drugs are alot worse for you than smoking is.
