Do you (still) send Christmas cards?

Over the last few years I've noticed a decline in the Christmas cards we receive. In previous years we've always sent them to relatives and close friends, but this year, it will just be to older relatives and people who sent them to us last year.

A few relatives posted a generic "Merry Christmas to all" on Facebook last year with one saying the cost of cards and postage is too much, which is understandable, but this is a tradition and they could just cut down on their fags throughout the year to save money.

Does your Christmas card situation mirror mine?

Still send them to immediate family but I don't do it for work colleagues or even close friends anymore. It seems a bit unnecessary given I interact with these people daily. I usually meet up with close friends over the Christmas break and I tend to bring in chocolates for the office rather than write out cards.

Its an obscene waste of paper, most end up in landfill by the end of December (although I put mine in the recycling).

I try and avoid sending them if I can. Such a waste of time and money.

I still have a load of Poundshop cards left from last year so people will be getting those if they are rude enough to send me one.

My wife will send out Christmas cards to the family and close friends, but I play no part in this tomfoolery. Complete waste of time and money. Humbug!

I don't send cards for anything other than my parents and girlfriend. Sending anything by post takes me an age so I'll be strawberry floated if I'm doing it for Christmas cards.

This year you need to send one full of glitter to your neighbour.

Care of all kinds are stupid.

Immediate family, but not all of them.

My wife still does them for family and close friends. I try to avoid them at work but then they start to trickle in and I send return ones out.

I don’t think all cards are stupid. Kids love getting birthday cards, get well soon cards are always popular with the people who clog up the NHS and sympathy cards after a death can be nice for relatives to receive.

I guess I am in favour of cards when it is something personal for the recipient, but against them when it is for a non-personal event. I have no problem sending a wedding card to a couple but like strawberry float am I buying Easter cards.

At this point you could even come at it from an environmental view that making that many card each year has to be having an impact but personally I just dislike them.

I wouldn’t think there was much environmental impact from cards, most paper is recycled.

Nope, I can say happy birthday and give them a present what purpose does a card do that hasn't already been covered in that.
