This whole cord cutting malarkey is going be a bit gooseberry fool until all these services are able to work on everything. There's no good reason why you can't access movies you own on iTunes through an Xbox or PlayStation for instance. If you have to buy the film on an iOS device that's one thing but once it's been purchased what difference does it make if you're not watching on an Apple product?

One of the great successes of Kindle is that you can get it on just about any device it makes sense to use it on.

Nope, binned Sky a couple of years back, and a box about a year go. I use a combination of catch up players, nowtv and Netflix via Chromecast. Have just got a fire TV so I can use TVPlayer for live TV and catch up stuff.
I use an app to track when episodes are on and mark them as watched etc.

I've never had a DVR television box. I still have the OLD virgin media box. Apparently we are getting a tivo box soon, however I could care less tbh.

Never had any form of DVR, just watch bits of live TV on freeview (either for sporting events or the odd bit of gold like Line of Duty) or use services like Netflix, Amazon or iPlayer.

Not sure how people are saying their internet isn't good enough for streaming, we have about 1-2 meg and all the above work fine.

Have been known to venture into the high seas for the odd bit of streaming as well, but that's pretty rare these days.

Haven't used one in ages. Chromecast + NowTV, iPlayer, ITV Player etc. does the job.

You'd think that they could send a signal to only start recording when the actual program starts rather than just at "exact time x", it's such a huge waste of disk space. That or they should give you the ability to edit out parts at the start/end of recordings.

Annoying but necessary. So much so that I go with the maximum "buffer" of 5 minutes just to make 110% certain the beginning isn't missed.

But like I said, that could be solved with a little "start recording now" and "stop recording now" signal that goes out along with the program.

That's probably just Sky being twattish. Freeview has offered exactly this facility for years.

Hell, even my old VCR had it.

Yeah we use the Sky+ record feature a lot as we can never agree what to watch and don't live by the TV listings guide.

I'm kinda surprised nobody makes use of the recording facility in their TVs when you connect a HDD. It's been around for a number of years now and theoretically turns the TV into a DVR.

My Sony TV for example even has twin satellite tuners. But unfortunately the EPG doesn't populate so the feature doesn't work...but still, I'm sure other manufacturers haven't strawberry floated it up.

My 2tb Sky Box is never less than 50% full. Have entire series of multiple programs recorded and we watch after kids gone to bed. Currently watching Billions as I type.

Use NowTV (4 boxes around house) for Sky Sports, Movies and kids channels too.

Never use iPlayer or ITV player

My Sony TV does this but it's a pain in the arse. The HDD has to be over a certain size and after it's formatted it can only be used with the TV, you can't partition it or anything. Haven't used that feature in ages but iirc if the TV is on you have to watch the channel you're recording because the TV only has one digital tuner :fp:

I contacted Sony as to why the EPG is broken on satellite and they said it's for Europe only and therefore isn't advertised in the U.K. So basically I can watch satellite just fine, it even picks up various channels throughout Europe, but I can't record anything or view TV listings. The twin tuner aspect is also obsolete. How hard can it be to populate an EPG FFS, the lazy gooseberry fools.

YouView, which is also in the TV, doesn't work alongside the satellite either so you have to choose one or the other in the menu.

Bloody irritating because the feature set and overall Google OS has been great.

Yep, sky+ HD every day combined with some netflix.

Never watch anything live (bar the f1), we just record and watch when we want.

Now I think about it, watching recordings is pretty much the only way I watch TV now.
I just can't watch live TV because of the adverts since they've gotten to the point they utterly infuriate me. Even fast forwarding through them at 30x speed I get annoyed at how long they last.
