I talk to myself through work, it annoys my colleagues but I don't even realise I'm doing it!

I also have imaginary conversations in my head from time about all manner of random things to see how certain situations play out.

Though im also capable of having no thoughts running through my head which is nice.

I do it when I'm cooking or having to organise something quickly.

Yes if I've got a lot of stuff going on at once I find it helps to say it out loud what I'm doing or how I'm ordering my tasks.

Usually DIY or at work or cooking like.

It's probably worth pointing out I do this in the privacy of my own home as I have a workshop/office and not quite so much in public. And my partner's pretty good at knowing when I'm talking to myself and not her; I'll normally address someone.

I often repeat out loud what I have just thought in my head, as though it is for the benefit of an invisible audience. Basically what Heskimo said on the first page.

I might on occasion do it, yes. When I'm home alone, usually.

Yeah, in the house. Sometimes in work. I did it in work on Saturday, just said 'wankers' louder than I expected. Work rage.

I think I might talk to myself but, now that I think about it, I'm really not sure. I think I talk to my cats more, which is kind of the same thing.

I talk to myself sure but when some of guys say you have conversations, can you expand on that?

Are you actually having a back and forth with yourself?

Sometimes yes, particularly if my anxiety levels rise for whatever reason. It's rather odd really.

For work stuff there can be some back and forth, usually I'm talking through the ways to do something to come up with the best solution. Without it i would end up writing the first version then rewriting over and over as I come up with better ways but by talking myself through it I hit a better version earlier.

I do and I’m doing it more and more. It annoys me sometimes so I end up arguing with myself.

I talk to myself because I'm the only one who'll listen.

I vocalise my inner monologue sometimes, usually in times of frustration (when driving mostly), but I don't have conversations with myself.

So it's confirmed, a section of Grcade members, (and no doubt a lot more), are as mad as a box of frogs then.

All the strawberry floating the time. Its like I'm the only one who will listen. :(

The irony is my neighbours think I'm talking to myself but this is actually when I'm shouting at Pedz on the internet.

Yeah I think work is one of the main areas where I would have a back and forth going on as well. Nothing like a full on conversation to myself or anything, but I might describe the problem I'm tackling to myself, then state my first thoughts on how to tackle it:

"So what if I did ..."

And then, after a bit of thinking time, follow this up with some counterpoint:

"But that wouldn't work with X so maybe I should ..."

This might carry on for a brief period before I've settled on an approach. I guess it comes from being something of an external processor - I often benefit from vocalising my thoughts in order to better understand where I am heading. This is all fairly sotto voce of course, I'm not blaring comments out at full volume or anything.

As I say the only other time I would have anything like a conversation with myself would be in the car - usually expanding exchanges from the radio to entertain myself on a commute, and often attempting to do a grotesque impersonation of whoever I'm listening to - for example I do a mean Ken Bruce impression!
