I find it strange that anyone* would have a phone and not be confident enough to use a basic built in feature like DND.

* Ok not 'anyone' but anyone who posts here at least.

If the phone is on there's still an opportunity to check it.

So it's no so much the technology, but trusting yourself not to check your phone when you shouldn't?

I've got no problem not checking my phone when I'm doing something else.

I keep mine on silent without vibration, as I do wherever I am.

Yes because it's pretty much the only time I power cycle it and that seems like a good thing to occasionally do

Silent, then off, just to be sure.

The bright light of a phone is almost as distracting as a ring tone.... don't do it!

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

I turn my phone off every night, when I go to bed. Apparently this is unusual.

I don't have a landline so if there is an emergency my mobile is the only way to contact me at night

My phone is also my alarm clock to wake me up on a morning.
