Do you use NFC to pay for things on your phone?

My new phone has this technology but I do not trust it. It appears to be inherently unsecure but then I do not understand the technical aspects behind it.

Does anyone here use Apple Pay or Google Pay?

My phone is set up to do it but I never bother, it's just as easy to get my bank card out and use that instead.

I use Google pay a little but. It's not really any different to contactless payment.

I use Google Pay all the time, pretty much. Literally the only place I'm forced to use my card is at Tesco, because they insist that they can't accept contactless payments over £30.

Nope. Don't see the benefit over using my card.

Do you have to open an app on your phone to do it?

What happens when you get to the till?

I think by default it automatically makes the payment, but I changed it so you have to open the app. You just open the app and press your phone against the contact pad and it automatically pays.

You have to unlock your phone, but you just put your phone over the contactless sensor just like you would with a credit or debit card.

Cards are limited to a maximum of £30 since you don't put in a PIN or anything, but there's no limit for Google/Apple Pay, since your phone acts as an authorisation step. It's especially secure if your phone has a fingerprint reader.

Use it whenever possible on my iPhone X.

No £30 limit
No need to go into my wallet to get my card
Security of fingerprint scanner or Touch ID whereas an actual card has none
Near-instant transaction history including time, date and location of purchase

NFC isn't new. My Nexus S from 2010 had it.

I prefer to separate my phone and paying for stuff in person. Prefer Contactless credit cards or chip and pin for things over £30.

I use Apple Pay on my iPhone X and/or Apple Watch daily, never had any issues, it’s extremely convenient and I like how it lets you know straight away how much has been debited,

I've only used it once when I went to fill up with petrol and realised I didn't have my wallet on me.

Unlike what others have said, though, it wouldn't let me spend over £30, and the guy had to split the transaction.

I normally just use cash, sometimes use contactless if I don't have enough change on me.

No, I just use my contactless debit card. My phone can do it, but I have enough trouble making sure the damn thing has enough power for call by the end of the day without adding battery sapping nfc in to the mix.

I don’t use NFC as it seems more of a faff to use my phone over my contactless card.

Use Google Pay to pay for petrol so I don't have to walk into the store, that's about it.
