Used it once when I forgot my wallet. Hardly use contactless at all now because Germany is backwards when it comes to things like this

I’m not comfortable about using my phone for anything to do with money.

I use Android pay all the time, it is more secure than contactless due to your card details not being exposed to the machine and just plain easier. Get annoyed when somewhere doesn't take cards or has a £5 minimum as I never carry cash anymore.

Yeah I'm the same. I've only just started using the banking apps and that's with great hesitation.

I use Apple Pay on my iPhone X for almost every single purchase I make. I'm always forgetting to take my wallet with me and last year I lost my wallet and went without any bank cards for around 3 months.
As mentioned, Apple Pay usually accepts transactions over £30, which is up to the retailer. I bought my LG TV which was about £1,800 using Apple Pay.
It's safer than using a debit card as the information the retailer receives is a one time use hash, which exposes no information to them. So my card number doesn't get exposed. I authenticate my iPhone using Face ID so have zero concerns anyone will steal my iPhone and go on a spending spree.
It's quick, although pre-authing with Face ID is a slightly longer process than using Touch ID.

For those people who are concerned about security, what is it you're worried about? Is it a specific vulnerability you have, or just lack of knowledge? And are you using Android or iPhone?

Losing my phone or having it stolen becomes much worse if it can be used to access my banking or pay for things. I get by absolutely fine paying cash, why increase my risk?

It can't pay for stuff when it is locked and it card details etc. don't sync (at least on android) you have to re-add them on each phone etc. so its not really a risk, its considerably harder to use them on a lost phone that a wallet.

Also it uses a virtual account that shares to the reader not your card details to unlike a bank card it can't be cloned.

Advantages over a card, sure, but I'm not using card contactless over phone contactless, I'm using cash. I need to have a bank card but I don't need to have banking on my phone.

NFC doesn't work in the same way as a contactless card, on iPhone you need to authorise it with Touch ID or Face ID for it to work. My banking app and the PayPal app are set to log in with Face ID and if my phone is lost or stolen there's virtually no chance of anyone else unlocking it. You can disable Apple Pay remotely using Find My iPhone too.

What are you, the Queen?

There are transaction charges which can be pretty painful for small businesses or anywhere that handles a large volume of low volume transactions.

Losing your cash is pretty bad too, since it can be used to pay for things. You can't remotely lock or deactivate your cash, either.

There are many card readers you can get these days for that type of business where you get charged around 2%.

On the subject of coin/paper money, I can't wait for it to go away. It's really frustrating to have to deal with.

If I lost my wallet I'd be much more worried about my cards than maybe £40 cash

Cash has costs associated with it as well, it's not as simple as all that.

I can call my bank immediately and have the cards frozen, the cash is gone.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I dont care if people use cash or cards or there phone but anyone who pays with a smart watch should be shot in the face with a high powerd air rifle and have an ear cut off..... Its always some super smug arse wipe who goes ''oh look at me im so rich and so swag I can pay by pressing my wrist against the reader oh arnt I such a jolly good fellow that everyone wants to be like.'' when really there an arse that society could so very well do without. They dont just casually put there wrist near the reader they actually need to make a whole massive look at me song and dance out of it.

I use my contactless card quite a lot.

I find my smartphone too distracting and invasive so I don't carry it unless I'm travelling. I also can't be bothered to check two ledgers for the appropriate information when doing my accounts although I'm not sure how it actually works.

It does sometimes bother me how vague contactless payments are. I mean it literally comes up with "contactless payment" on my statement half of the time. Good luck remembering what that was a year later when it finally comes to doing your self assessment :shifty:

I use Google pay all the time. A lot faster than trying to find my bank card in my wallet.
