I've turned this off on my Wii now. I realised it was causing my Wireless N network to slow down because it only operates on G. I also decided that it wasn't providing anything useful and the flashing drive tray got annoying as well.

Do you still have it turned on?

I'm surprised the Daily Mail has not yet run a feature on how this aspect of the Wii is adding to greenhouse gas emissions and that as a result gamers are the sole people responsible for global warming.

I used to use it, but then realised I wasn't really benefiting from leaving it connected. I don't even leave it on standby now, as it gets so little use. It's currently not plugged into the socket.

total bollocks, even if you were joking. the wii uses less than 10W when its in connect 24 stand by. lets compare that to lamps, most lamps are 40W to 100W, and lets not talk about the fact most people always forget to turn them off, wouldnt that be much more of an issue than 10W ...

You are thinking far to sensibly for The Daily Mail my friend. I think you forget that this is a console device and thus the cause of all the evil in the world and any electricity they use is a huge drain on society. It would be hard to find an article in that paper that is anything other than 100% negative towards gaming and anything thats even slightly negative however small can be made into a big issue by them in the crusade they have against the hobby.

No as I don't like leaving things plugged in and on 'standby' while I'm not around. I just unplug my Wii when I'm not playing it.

you got me partner, and is that seriously what the tabloids moan about these days, how game consoles drain electricity (even though the owner pays the inflated price for it)

edit: and about what i said earlier, i was moaning with you against the the tabloids, not against you.

I unplug all my electricals now. It all adds up and fuel prices are so high I don't want to waste money.

I love the excitement of the Wii glowing blue but yeah this probably shouldn't be left on all the time. Heck thinking about it I don't think I should be leaving my router on overnight <_< >_>

I probably should turn it off actually, it's not like there's even a reason to have it on.

Not since it burned out my graphics card* and I had to get a replacement.

*This may not be technically accurate but it certainly did something that buggered up my wii.

Nah, it actually takes some of my bandwidth up; an with the constant usage of utorent, I need as much as I can get 9espeically on the weekends). Plus Nintendo never send you anything of worth, and I only get spam from my Wiifriends - so I'm, not missing gooseberry fool all having i offf

Yeah I could do without my GPU getting borked. Plus I don't want to update my firmware so I can use freeloader so I keep it off.

I've had mine on WiiConnect since the UK Launch day, and so far nothing has broken.

And it won't automatically update the firmware without your say so, so the Freeloader isn't a problem. (Since a Firmware update can hypothetically knacker your Wii, Nintendo probably want to make sure that people's Wii's don't mysteriously break in the middle of the night if there's a power-cut and no-one around to see it happen - would just get their machine a bad rep for reliability).

I've left it on but i do have a later version of the Wii as now it doesnt get hot like my original did.

Plus leaving routers on all the time doesn't matter, thats what they are built for.
