Wearing a poppy in Northern Ireland is a tricky one.

Looks like somebody's confused World Wars with War Of The Worlds.

I think if you cross poppy fever with War of the Worlds you get something approximating Starship Troopers

Between this and the recently created Poppy Watch '23, I spy an excuse for you to use the merge threads tool you rarely get to utilise. 8-)

As much as I enjoy an excuse to use the merge tool, new threads > bumping threads!

The Sun's headline the other day, "Where Have All the Poppies Gone????"

Dreadful.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Did they look behind the fridge? If you lose something, it's nearly always there.

I went outside today and there were zero poppies, ZERO. This country has lost its way. Whatever would we have done without the war. Useless millennials! Taking our pensions and not getting a job.

For the first time in many years I've bought a poppy. I always used to wear one 'religiously' but then stopped when remembrance went all extreme. But the other day there was a man selling Big Issue outside our local Co-op and the British Legion inside selling poppies and I thought I'd give a fiver to both. (Pitiful really when I'd just spent £20-00 on booze....) So I'll be quietly wearing my poppy and ignoring all the right wing numpties.

I don't think anybody at all has a problem with people buying, selling or wearing poppies.

The issue is the far right trying to bully people into wearing them. And the "LOOK AT ME!" types who take their poppy displays to extremes.

Correct. The issue starts when people start policing your "respect levels".

I didn't get the chance to buy one this year, perhaps i could've done more to remedy that but I still stopped in the shop I was in at 11am this morning and actually used it to think about the people that died.

The 11th November is also my birthday, so my Mum has constantly seen the Poppy as important to her. I'll not share a picture of the Happy 21st card I got from her which was the number made out of poppies. :fp: :toot:

Exactly this, I wear a poppy and have done for many years.

It's not the poppy appeal itself that is the issue here.
